Best Paddle/Best Value
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I've used a lot of paddles over the years, and currently own and continue to use three . . . the Begali, a Bencher, an NAT.
The Simplex has the best "touch" I've ever felt.
It absolutely will not walk under a heavy hand. It can be set extremely close and light and still feel crisp. It holds its settings.
It is beautiful to look at, and is very reasonable priced.
Mr. Begali and his family send me a Christmas e-mail every year. Wonderful people. Terrific service. Extraordinary paddles--clearly, a labor of love.
You can pay a LOT more for a quality paddle, but you cannot buy a better paddle.

perfect!!

I bought the Simplex last year and have used it as my primary keyer every since. This is the best possible iambiac for the price. The smooth operation and easy adjustment make it a pleasure to use. The Begali has turned me into a brass pounder that rarely ventures to the upper parts of the bands. A valuable addition for any serious CW operator.

Just do it!

I have never really done any CW since passing my ticket and I have kept saying I will do it and like many, never got round to it! I took early retirement last year and as I have the time, I thought it was about time I finally got around to it! I had bought a HexKey from Elecraft to go with my K2 and K3 and never really liked it.
Taking a premise that if I had a guitar I didn't like, I simply would not play it, I sold the Hex and after reading the reviews on here I bought a Simplex. Wow! This is a precision instrument. I have had several QSO's today on it and apart from lack of practice I am absolutely delighted. The key is lovely and a thing of beauty to behold. I went for the palladium finish with gold contacts and the red aluminium paddles. It arrived with its plastic paddles on and a set of blue aluminium paddles too!
Customer service is important to me, very important. I will pay a premium for it. I cannot fault the service I have had. Bruna kept me informed at each stage and everything happened as promised. The parcel was very well packed and it took me a while to get into it :)
In the box were several QSL cards, a lovely pen, a small Christmas greeting, a cleaning cloth and a feeler gauge as well as the key and paddles.
If you are looking for a great key at what I consider to be a good price and are looking for great customer service don't think any more, just get a Begali.

great paddle / perfect support
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I recently ordered this paddle and i´m really happy with that tool for CW radio amateurs. I give a 5, because the paddle provides exactly what i expect. After some adjustments to find the right space of the contacts, this paddle will be my main. I have experience with the ETM-3, Bencher as well as some other homemade paddles and i find the simplex the most precise. I prefer applying the closest distance of the contacts, thus i need a very precise pladdle. The simplex was the right decision for my shack. I´s also worth to mention that i had perfect support in all my questions i had. Thank´s for all.

What a great key!

Begali has designed and manufactured a great iambic key in the form of the Simplex! Its design is simple in its presentation and precise in its construction. The base is solid and almost immovable when placed squarely on a proper surface. The screws and nuts are finely threaded for easy adjustments that stay where you put them. I find this a very easy key to use after pounding a straight key in prior years when I was in the military. This key is a great value even with the current exchange rate with the Euro.
If I were to give it any criticism, it would be that rather flimsy plastic cover. I had discussed this issue of the cover with Bruna, Piero Begali's daughter, and she sent me a couple of spares and a pair of red plastic finger pieces. I believe that Peiro may be working on a replacement solution for this cover.
I needed the plastic finger pieces because static electricity (not RF) was getting to me every time I touched the red metal finger pieces I originally ordered and that were mounted on the key. I liked the feel of the metal finger pieces, but the plastic ones work better for me due to the static.
It is a very fine key in any case.

One of the best keys
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

The Begali is the best in price/value I guess.
First I had a little trouble to adjust it to my
needs and went back several times again to my trusty
VIBROPLEX Lambic.
But I gave the SIMPLEX an other try for adjustment.
Now the Simplex is my standard paddle.
Other paddles I use: Vibroplex lambic, Schurr Profi

I've only been doing CW for about 18 months, but I bought the Begali Simplex over a year ago and I love it. It is absolutely beautiful to look at and to use. Can be adjusted for very short travel. Very solid feel and the palladium finish is very pretty.
Life is short and if you want to treat yourself to something of exceptional quality, buy a Begali key. The Begali family are very nice to deal with, also.

Extremely high quality Key

I'll make this short. I just literally, unfortunately, inheirited this key from a good ham friend who is now SK. It is impressive, extremely sensitive, responsive to the touch and has a great range of adjustment. Really precision piece...and beautiful. If you appreciate Ducati motorcycles or Ferrari cars, you will love this key. The Italians have a unique way of combining artistic beauty and mechanical perfection. Not a cheap key, but you will not be disappointed. This is a NICE key. 73, K0ZN

Great Key & Great Service!
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I ordered a Simplex at the first of the year and it arrived quickly but with a minor problem. It worked great but the screw holes in the base were stripped and I could not attach the cable grip. I contacted Begali and they sent replacement screws which did not work. Today I received a new replacement key which is as perfect as it could be. I was asked to ship the original key to Begali's US contact which was I was happy to do. They offered to pay me for the shipping cost so what more could one ask for. I also have a Begali Signature key and enjoy using both. I'm not sure which one I like the most. If you are thinking about getting a Begali for yourself, don't hesitate. I only wish that everyone was as easy to work with as they are.
