Outstanding  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Just picked one of these jewels from EBay for $20 including shipping. I had earlier bought a Oak Hills Research OHR100A to do a little QRP on 20 meters. Had a little Radio Shack I was going to use to supply power. Wrong! Couldn't get rid of the hum. I then bought the IC-3PA. For a 3 Amp supply this thing is totally over engineered and overbuilt! Weighs in at around 9 pounds, is built like a tank and even includes a built-in speaker. It's got to be the best base power supply I have ever seen for QRP. Not a trace of hum..either electrical or mechanical, solid output of 13.8 volts and speaker clear as a bell. I understand these about 20 year old, but if you are looking for a QRP base supply this has to be the finest.

Great!  Time owned: more than 12 months
Worked great with the Icom 230 I got with it. The built in speaker was also nice. For a low amp supply you can't go wrong.

Built like a tank with a nice sounding speaker  Time owned: more than 12 months
The IC-3PA was a power supply Icom marketed back in the '70s to match their VHF/UHF mobile rigs in the days when 10W out was the norm. It came with a bracket that mounted the radio securely atop the power supply/speaker combo to make a complete base station out of the mobile rig. Rigs that fit on top included the IC-280, IC-245, IC-24E, IC-22U, IC-22S, IC-22A, IC-22, IC-20, IC-230, IC-220, IC-30A, IC-30, IC-320, and IC-60. However, that top surface is also a perfect place to set a Yaesu FT-817 for base use.

For a 3 amp supply this thing is big and very heavy by today's standards. The speaker is decent sized and provides nice audio, and is a big improvement over the tiny little speakers in today's QRP rigs like the FT-817. The unit is solid metal and built like a tank. It's got three lights: power on, normal operation, and a red warning light. It's got nice, big terminal screws in the back as well as a jack for audio in.

I picked one of these up "new from old stock" in the box about three years ago. For QRP base operation I can't think of a better station accessory. Great supply, great speaker, and truly microscopic prices (typically $10-$30) on the used market depending on condition. Highly recommended for the QRPer or if you have one of those vintage Icom mobiles. (I do have an IC-24E which still works brilliantly.)
