Awesome Tuner!
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I have used the Dentron for over 1 year now and I am simply stunned at how well it performs. The settings are repeatable. I can write down the settings for a particular antenna/frequency and dial right back to that setting over and over again. I've taken a simple 20-meter dipole and used it successfully on 80-10.
The vernier controls are smooth and accurate. It was a used tuner, but after a good cleaning and polishing of the inductor it has been a star performer, taking full-legal power into some extremely non-resonant antennas and never sparking or arcing.

Great Tuner - buy it

I have used an RT-3000 for 18 months, and wouldn't exchange for any other tuner. Handles full power with ease, no heating (ie, low internal losses). Hard to find one, but if you do, buy it.

Solid Heavy Duty Tuner
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I picked one of these up used. I was looking for a high quality heavy duty tuner and this more than fit the bill. The capacitors in this are huge. The roller inductor is well made with a ceramic core and a vernier drive with 1/10th scale per turn! That's 10 clicks per turn on the counter. The one I got needed the shaft on the roller inductor resoldered. (not too difficult taking the inductor out and fixing it) Someone had obviously not payed attention to the directions and tried to roll it past 00.0. The roller inductor has a grooved wheel that rides on the inductor with small tension clips. Tuning is very repeatable with the 6:1 vernier drives on the capacitors. This tuner reminds me more of the PalStar or Nye Viking than any other Dentron tuner I have seen. So all positives except if you get one that someone broke the solder joint that keeps the inductor shaft spinning. I would probably put it in the same price range as a Heathkit SA-2060A or maybe a little higher due to the fact that it has vernier drives on the capacitors. $300-$425 range in perfect condition. This could be a bargain, I've seen them go for $100 in estate sales.
