I had a power output problem with my Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark 5 due to a pet cat laying on the mike and locking it in transmit. Emailed Byron from his web site; www.hamradiobug.com ; and he gave me an idea of what the problem could be and said it should fall into the estimates stated on his web site, but couldn't guarantee it until he saw the radio. He set up a date to ship it to him and I told him to go ahead and do the updates as well. There was more wrong than originally anticipated and he emailed me with the facts. DO IT I said! Shipped it on a Monday, he had it Wednesday, emailed me on following Monday, ready to ship, sent me a total, paid him with PayPal, he shipped it back in the identical box I used, got it Friday morning. 11 days from ship to back on the desk! INCREDIBLE !! He took the time to answer all my questions before, during and after the repair. Very knowledgeable, the man definitely qualifies as "EXPERT". Very detailed list of all services performed accompanied the radio upon its' return. You couldn't find better service. Won't hesitate to send another radio to him or to recommend his services. Just the best!! Thanks Byron!!!

I took my Icom 745 to Byron a few years ago and I was VERY happy with his work. I just wished he worked on Icoms now instead of Yaesu! You will not find a better technician than Byron. If I ever have a problem with a Yeasu rig he will be the one I take it to!

I bought a FT1000MP Mark V which turned out to have a transmitter problem. Based on the reviews here on eHam I contacted Byron. He practically diagnosed the problem before I shipped it.
Turn around time was less than two weeks from the time I shipped it to him. He returned the rig better than new along with the old parts he replaced and a detailed list of the repairs and adjustments.
I had another Mark V Field that had a problem and I was about to send him this rig when he sent me an email telling me to check a potential trouble area and the fix. Turned out he was right on the money and saved me from having to ship him the rig for a relatively minor problem.
If you need repair for any of the 1000 series and soon the 2000 series Byron Campbell is your man!

Great Service!

Back in June I took a lightning hit that destroyed or damaged lots of my station equipment. I thought that my FT-1000D had come through the incident unscathed, but when I got my new microHAM Station Master to replace the Band Decoder that had been destroyed I found that the CAT function was dead. I found and replaced two components on the Control Board that were damaged, but it turned out the Serial In port on the microprocessor was damaged. Since the Yaesu (now Vertex Standard) parts people told me replacement boards were no longer available, I went ahead and ordered a replacement microprocessor. I can fix lots of thing, but the idea of making an irreversible screw-up trying to replace a 80-pin Quad Flat Pack package device on a board that's no longer available gave me cold feet. I decided to seek professional help.
Based on the reviews here on eHam, I contacted Byron via e-mail. He was most helpful and encouraging. He readily agreed to take on the uP replacement and had no problem with using the part I already had on hand. Since he's rightfully very busy, he couldn't get to the job right away. He notified me promptly when he was ready for me to ship the radio, and the repair turnaround was only a couple of weeks from initial shipping to return.
Not only did he skillfully replace the damaged part, he also aligned the radio to factory-new specs, replaced six damaged cabinet screws and even tightened some hardware that had apparently come loose in shipping.
He enclosed the radio in an extra outer box surrounding the factory double box it had been shipped in for the return trip, citing some shipping damage history with the original boxes only. The radio arrived safe and sound via Fed Ex here in north Texas just two days after leaving Byron's shop.
I take pride in being able to keep my own equipment running, but you can bet if I ever need a Yaesu specialist for a really challenging repair, Byron will be my man.

I had my MKV RX problem repaired by Byron. I must say he is a true professional. My radio was in the best hands. Not a mark or scratch, and my MKV has never worked this good. Full itemised documentation done very nicely with full detail. I even had the bad parts including some SMT components in a seales plastic bag returned with the rig. I feel 100% in recommending him. I like the fact that he is highly specialised in the 1000 series rigs. If I ever had to wait to be put in his workload, I most certainly will. Thank You Byron I appreciate your skill.

Byron Campbell (WA4GEG) repaired my Yaesu FT1000MP Mark V recently. My only complaint is that he does such good work that there is a "waiting list" to get service. The wait is worth it. Thanks Byron. 73, Clyde, K9JWI

I had my Yaesu FT-1000-MP into Vertec Standard a few years ago and they repaired it but I had to send it back and it still was not right.
So recently I decided to look around for somebody to do the repair properly and found Byron, WA4GEG.
This guy does what he says and in the time frame he states he will do it in. He replaced the parts needed, implemented all mods and did a bang up jog. I HIGHLY recommend him and will have him do work for me again if needed.
