Super Amp
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

My Titan 3 has been on the air since December and is driven by my Orion. The amp's construction is excellent. Tuning is smooth and repeatable to get 1.5KW out on all bands. QSK is very fast and smooth, even up to 70wpm. The fan noise and the QSK relays are very quiet. The Titan 3 has performed flawless since I put it on my desk. Couldn't ask for a more trouble free piece of equipment.

HEFTY, WITH PERFORMANCE TO MATCH
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
|
My Titan III has been on line since early September with no problems but very impressive performance. The butter smooth tuning and excellent repeatability means once the amp is warmed up and on standby I can tune "by the book" and call the DX in seconds instead of a minute or more. The sheet metal work is impressive and the general fit and finish is first cabin. It's not a cheap amplifier, but it is well worth the money.

RETURNED FROM TEN TEC

My Titan III was returned from the factory with a new tube. The problem that I reported was caused by a shorted tube taking out the cathode resistor.

Super metal fab
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I have had the Titan III amp on the air for about ten hours now and it has been great!! I may never work qrp again HI HI. Now to a more serious note. Ten-Tec deserves a 10 PLUS on the metal fab. In my opinion quality metal fab is at least 50% of the job in a linear amplifier. The other half is filtering, control circuitry, transformer, and relay switching. Every hole matches up with the screw hole. Considering the number of screws this is amazing. The fan is powerful and the close fit of the sheet metal means that the air goes to cool the tubes which is what you want. This is the first amp that I have purchased that gives me a flat match between the amp and the rig. This goes for the warc bands as well. Harmonic suppression is super on this amp. Much less rfi gets into the TV in the house with the titan III then I had with my AL811. The tune and load controls have great repeatability. Swithing bands is very quick and easy because of this repeatability. One comment: because of the macho weight of this machine do your 10/12 meter mod first. Then install the xformer. If you don't heed this, you may pull a muscle moving this beautiful brute around. The amp runs very cool and requires very low drive for 3 or 400 watts on twenty meters I got 800 watts drive with about 20 watts. On last thing, if a Ten-Tec amp ever does need repair, odds are a replacement board or a fuse will do the trick and you will not have to wait two or three months to get back up and running like you do with brands x,y,z.
Best 73's and qro for awhile.
