Alinco DX70Th repair
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months
|
Found Randy on here looking for opinions, called him and he told me to send my radio to him, he would cover the warranty. He gave me a call in the window of time he gave me and told me they couldn't find the problem I was having with it (wouldn't go to USB). He was gonna ship it back and told me what it cost so far. It was fair and I had no problem with that, He called a few hours later to inform me while he was on the phone with me the tech who was working on it finally had the problem show up and he traced it down to a cold solder joint, told me they repaired it and did the mods from Alinco and was being shipped. I got it within a few days and the radio works great and better than before. I have no problem sending him more of my radios for repair.
PS....Alinco covered it all under warranty.

AMP
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I bought a ALPHA 374 AMP. in 2006, worked great, but the power supply was leaking.
I send it To The R. F. SHOP for repairers. While he (Randy) had it I ask if 160 meter could be in installed
along with replacing the 3 8874 tubes for cheaper tubes. He (Randy) answered YES.
I mailed it out in May 2006 after 21 months later (January 2008) I received the ALPHA 374 AMP. from
TENNESSEE which He (Randy) informed me that he had send the AMP. on to his brother in-law in TENNESSE.
After unpacking it I notice there was something inside rolling around. I removed the top
and removed washer, screws, and solder. Also the coil was piled up with solder.
The 3 8874 tubes was replaced with 2 Gi7B tubes which I plugged in.
The front of the case had the EPOXY finger prints so looking closer the Meter was broken
from the inter case and replaced by EPOXY, now it won't say in place. The mounts for the
POWER SUPPY is all bent up I went ahead and plugged the AMP. to electric. The grid was pegged.
The tubes got so HOT that the solder boiled out of the tubes, Now the tubes are gone.
I called Randy to report all these problems. His respondence was
he saw 1900 to 2000 Watts on all bands before it was shipped.
My QUESTION is how did he see all this power if the AMP. was fixed by his brother in-law in TENNESSEE
and mailed from TENNESSEE????????

Repair of yeasu dualband
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
In just a few weeks I got a call that my unit was ready and gave the information needed before they shipped it. Got it back and I works great.
Who ever has any negative remarks, is not telling the whole story.
They keep in touch and are HONEST, and reasonable
I just sent my Icom and will be sending my Yeasu backup unit to them Tues.

Very Leery
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I sent an inquiry a number of days ago and have yet to get anything other than their automated response. If it takes this long for them to respond to a simple e-mail, I think I'll go elsewhere for repairs. Gut feeling...

Absolutely no communication - radio gone now 4 months
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
|
|
I sent my new dual-band mobile via UPS the first week of February, 2007. Tomorrow is June 1st! Despite numerous e-mails and phone calls I have yet to have a reply. The e-mails generate the same standard generic reply, the phone goes to voice mail and says the mail box is full and no message can be left. It don't know what has happened to Randy in 2007 but this lack of any reply at all can only rate me giving him a 0; hopefully I will get my radio back but after over four months I'm doubtful. I will never use The RF Shop again. He might be a good technician but this is no way to run a business and I can not recommend this shop.

I blew the pre-driver, drivers and finals in the RF output section of my Icom IC-756ProII. I could have paid hundreds to ship it to/from the west coast, but found The RF Shop just about an hour north of my Northern KY QTH. I called and set up a drop off time and found that the average turn-around time was approx. 4 weeks. So I dropped off the rig up in Hamilton, OH (north Cincinnati). Randy called a few days later to tell me that the parts were on order and exactly what the problem was. I got back from vacation and a few weeks later the ProII was ready. I drove back to get it and promptly hooked it back up, putting the trusty backup TS-570D (portable rig) off to the side again. I made one call to an every elusive KL7 on 80M CW and then again had no RF out. I was less than happy. A call to Randy the next day had me back in the pickup heading north. When I got to The RF Shop, Randy and 2 of his guys gathered around and I told my sad story. They were really concerned, especially after telling me how they had tested the rig on the air. They promised to look at it that same day. The next day Randy called to say the the bias diode in the PA was open and that he'd ordered a replacement. As it turned out, the diode had been weakened with the first round of problems - and it cost more to ship it than what the diode was worth. I picked up the rig a few days later and there was no charge. No charge for the part, the shipping or the bench time - awesome! I just used the rig in the ARRL 160M CW contest and made over 300 QSOs with 44 states. It's great to have the "big rig" back, and also very nice to have The RF Shop close by. Many thanks to Randy and his guys! Vy 73, Charlie, K8IJ

Great Service
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

Bought a TS-940 on eBay which arrived with multiple problems which I promptly sent to Randy and the gang at The RF Shop. They kept me up to date with emails (they had to order some parts from Kenwood which held things up), until my rig returned in fine working order. A couple of weeks after I had the rig back, some new problems popped up that had apparently occured during the return shipping. I called Randy, who was a bit mystified but very apologetic and had the rig picked up immediately by UPS. They got on the problems immediately, keeping me posted by phone until they were positive everything was corrected. I wasn't charged anything for shipping or bench fees!!!! I find their knowledge and willingness to work with people astounding in this day and age and will certainly use them for all future repairs!!!
