Great buy compared to the HT1250/1550 Series  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I recently purchased the VHF PRO9150 to replace my aging 99 channel MT-1000.
I was considering a used System SABER or Astro but after hearing that the line was recently discontinued, price of batteries, spare parts and realizing it was a complete overkill for my needs, I decided against it. This is a good alternative radio for anyone who is considering purchasing the HT1250,1550, JT-1000 or MT2000 converntional radios.
The PRO9150 is a professional, top-of-the-line radio in it’s class so comparing it to Amateur gear is not fair since spec-wise, it leaves all Amateur gear in the dust. Feature-wise, perhaps it is not as flexible as some of the Ham gear but it was not designed to be a Swiss-Army knife type of radio but rather a top-notch performer with features more suitable for the LMR market.
The PRO9150 is very similar in features to the HT1550 XLS (Sold in the US) but does not offer trunking capabilities.
In my opinion, here are the radio’s biggest pluses:

1. This radio can be purchased new in the US for about $470 ($485 for UHF version) since it is made for export to the South American and Latin American Markets. The MSRP of the HT1550 is $1050 (VHF) and $1100 (UHF). They require different RSS software to do the initial programming so be careful. (Please do not email me for SW. I don’t have it).
2. Field programmable (160 Channels in 16 Zones) with the optional ($90) NNTN4503AR battery.
3. 136-174 MHz coverage – no spec compromise across the entire range. Great for Ham + Marine in same radio. The UHF Version covers 403-470 MHz. (A separate version covers 450-512 but this model of course is not suitable for the ham market).
4. Comes with NiMH 7.5V 1500 mAh battery and 1 Hr. rapid charger.
5. The radio can record and time stamp recently received transmissions for later playback. It can also auto-reply a voice message upon receiving a specific DTMF sequence. (…“Out to lunch – be back in ten”).
6. Password protection. (User programmable).Renders your radio useless if stolen.
7. 14 Character Alpha Numeric Display for each channel. Also displays the TX and RX frequency, PL/DPL/.
8. 7 programmable buttons.(20 selectable features).
9. As with all Motorola HTs, built like a brick, very loud audio and has a belt clip that will survive your belt.
10. 2 Year warranty. Extended 3 year warranty beyond the 2 years is $86.
