At Last, I've Found My Logbook Software  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I have been testing logbook software since late 2006. I have purchased several programs, and I have used several on trial. I have used N3FJP, Easy Log, DXKeeper, VQ Log, and several others. Prior to Logger32, I kept going back to the ACLog by N3FJP which is an outstanding program for those getting started. I thought Easy Log 5 was going to be my program, but it kept crashing when I was speed typing, and it is not very user configurable.

Whoever wrote Logger32 must be a master at database programming. This software does everything, and in a way that I always hoped was possible. Now, this software is not for the faint of heart. In it's virgin, freshly downloaded state, it is set up in the most God-Awful format that you could imagine. It's almost as if the author is trying to discourage people from using it.

After a solid week of 2-3 hours per day playing around with the program, using the help files and reading comments on the support reflector, things started making sense to me. I now have a very attractive, logically laid out, functional logbook that is, by far, the most configurable and powerful amateur logbook program that I have used to date. Once it is set up, the hard part is over, and the enjoyment begins.

If you are looking for a plug and play package, this program in not for you. If you want the very best and have about 12-hours to invest in "becoming one" with the software, I truly believe that this is the cream of the crop.

It's free too.

need help  Time owned: more than 12 months
After downloading the upgrade from
vers. 3.3 to 3.4 all infos in the MACRO-buttons
for PSK-modes are deleted (other modes okay). When I fill in new text and switch the Logger32 OFF and ON again the new text will be deleted again.
What can be the reason? Who can help me?

The ultimate Logging Solution  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have spend a lot of time on exporting logs and integrate or translate various data files due to in-compatibility that older DOS based programs had. I have used mainly K1EA for SSB/CW and WF1B for RTTY, but the problem was that I did not have a single source for all logs.
Now, I have collect all past logs, convert them to ADIF and load them in Logger32. I use N1MM as a daily logging software and Logger32 as the main database. I actually use very few of its facilities, but as I can see, it can do a lot of nice jobs.
I would like to see more awards trackings, maybe user defined.
Gongrats and Thanks !!!

Too Costly  Time owned: more than 12 months
Does not have flexibility to log in real world. Developer refuses to allow hams to log call signs the way they are given over the air - preferring instead to force you to log information that was not provided at time of QSO (i.e., DX entity of KL7 forced on you in callsign field by software for a QSO with an AL7xx call sign located in the continental US).

Developer responds to requests for help and/or clarification by pointing out that users are entitled to a full refund (of the $0 purchase price) and encourages users to run other software if they don't like the way he wants us to log.

This is an elementary piece of software that I would not recommend to anyone. It looks like it's feature-packed, but very little works properly. CW Machine is broken. PSK31 data interface does not log proper frequency of QSO. I could go on, and on...

Here's a good one... this software does not allow you to tag multiple (i.e. more than one) QSOs for edit. So, for example, if you want to perform a mass change of QSL status, for a bunch of contacts, you're going to have to do it one at a time - a real pain in the backside. And when a ham recently asked why in the "support" reflector, the developer told him that he should have logged it correctly in the first place. (Nice attitude Bobby.)

Excellent Program  Time owned: more than 12 months
This program gets better all the time. It is updated constantly. Has many features that will suit most needs of diverse amateurs.
With that said, it is not easy to setup but the help manual is a great step in learning how to make it work.
The CW machine program however does not work with Vista. You need to download from Windows WinHlp32.exe and this solved the problem.

Superb and it's Frees  Time owned: more than 12 months
I just upgraded to the latest version of the software and still find it the best for maintaining "Situational Awareness" about what is happening on the bands and how it affects your operation. It's amazing to be able have a free piece of software, have it monitor the cluster, tell you whether a spot is important to you and tune your rig and point your antenna at it.

Likewise the fully integrated PSK and RTTY functions ease logging in those modes as well. Integration with LOTW and other QSL programs is a breeze. Full ADIF support is provided for import and export.

Now, because it is so feature rich and very customizable to your own specific needs, it does take time to set up. But a 400 page manual (fully indexed for electronic searching) has most of the answers. If after searching that and the message archives on the Yahoo Group, you'll find your friendly answers there from the volunteers who provide support.

Exellent free Logger with mayy features  Time owned: more than 12 months
I think Logger32 is about the best logging software out there, and the it's free!

I have never had any problems with the support group. they have been very helpfull and I've
asked some dumb questions in the past.

The help file takes a little getting used to but that is because there is volumes of information there!

The creation of Logger forced the commercial software types to get out of the DOS world!

Bob and the group created what I consider one good looking User interface! If you dont like it you can cange it or link Logger32 to the VERY nice user interface of Ham Radio Deluxe's
Main window and all the powerful featured it has to make it a spectaular combination!

No Charge, HIGH COST  Time owned: more than 12 months
Logger is a great program...there's lots there and lots of potential.
This software is great, but free it's not... there's no monetary outlay, but the cost in putting up with the "support" forum in Yahoo is extremely high.

Needs help!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I would like to be positive about this program, but with the extremely poor attitude of both the author and the support person, it's not easy. Constructive criticism is only met with user intimidation, and if your presistant, you will be dropped from the Logger32 reflector.

Logger32 is probably fine for SSB and digital, but if your looking for a really good CW program also, it's best to look elsewhere.

Logger32 is designed with a main window and child windows that will only function within the main window; I have been unable to get it to work on a two monitor system. The thing called the 'CW Machine' is probably OK if you don't mind putting up timing errors generated by I/O port interrupts that are a normal function of most Windows operating systems. Evidentally the author does not know how to or care to program the CW generation functions to bypass this Windows 'problem'. When sending CW, the characters on the screen are erased as they are sent, leaving the user with no reference where they were in sending to the other person. A request by me to discuss another method of doing this was met with the short response that it "Will Not" be even a subject of discussion because "the CW Machine was released 10+ years ago", for what ever that was supposed to mean. There is no quick way to jump from, say, the CW Machine window to the Log Entry window, the two most used windows in the program if you are running CW. You must use a mouse to chage windows, which really slows things down. However, the authors response is that "CW is past it's prime"! One may not buy into that statement from the author if they had their radio on the ham bands the first and last weekend on November.

The Help file embedded in Logger32 reads like it was written to make sure the user became totally frustrated, and it does that job quite well. Fortunately, DM3ML wrote a seperate Logger32.pdf help file that is extremely user friendly, meaning, when you click for help, say, on macros, DM3ML's PDF help file sends you directly to that specific information and is very well done.

Logger32 can be made much better and user friendly by considering user inputs, but something tells me this just will not happen. Be prepared for a strong period of frustration and user intimidation if your going to try this program.
