Reviews Summary for GeoAler Wizard
GeoAler Wizard Reviews: 7 Average rating: 5.0/5 MSRP: $20.00
Description: The GeoAlert Wizard maintains updated geophysical indices and displays the information in a friendly - at a glance - manner.

Displayed geophysical indices include: solar wind Bz component, speed and pressure, current WWV type indices and predicted solar flux, planetary A-Index and probability of major storms at middle latitudes for the next day.

The GeoAlert Wizard lives in the system tray by default and retrieves updated geophysical data when it is available. The Space Environment Center geophysical data is updated every 3 hours.
Product is in production.

Try it!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Even with the passing of Jim, his sister will carry on Jim's legacy with Kangaroo Tabor Software. I just purchased the bundle and very pleased.

Excellent Tool  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
GAW is an excellent tool for monitoring the HF conditions. It downloads publicly available (but complicated) information and transforms it into easy to understand and use data. Jim Tabor provides friendly, fast support and will work closely with anyone that has a problem or glitch with the software.

Superb with GeoAlert-Extreme Wizard !  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Hi,

You probably know Kangaroo Tabor Software, Jim Tabor's company who provides already some famous propagation programs like WinCAP Wizard 3.

This time Jim who is also KU5S, improved the GeoAlert tool reviewed below in creating "GeoAlert-Extreme Wizard" (GEW), a major step ahead.

In the line of its predecessor, GEW displays updated geophysical indices in a dashboard (showing SSN, SFI, Kp, Ap, solar wind Bz component, pressure, speed, etc) and various user-friendly charts extending up to 24 years.
Here is an example of available chart : http://www.taborsoft.com/gawiz/chartpastpred.gif

But Jim added this time a map showing the ionosphere status, I mean a Maximum Usable Frequency (MUF) map at earth scale (not for point-to-point prediction), taking advantage of the power and accuracy of the VOACAP engine.
Note that this map comes in two "versions" : Fields and square. This first calculates a mid resolution prediction and is quickly display. But Thus is the most interesting feature. It is much more accurate but at first run (and only once) it may request over 30 minutes to calculate all predicions on a 1 GHz computer (1 hr+ on a 500 MHz). Why so long ? Because it generates a map valid for all a month and all hours and take into account a possible zoom in the map. You must see it to beleive it !

See the default MUF map :

Now "sorted " by amateur band :
http://www.astrosurf.com/lombry/Radio/soft-geoalert-extreme-amateur-tabor.jpg

This map can be displayed in various forms (colored per band, for contests etc) and its resolution changes according your amplification (zoom) factor, placing W6ELPro and other applications now far behind its performances.

See a close up when zooming :
http://www.astrosurf.com/lombry/Radio\soft-geoalert-extreme-zoom.jpg

and this is not interpolated values like do other products to smooth curves... !!

This application is first dedicated to get an overview of propagation. You cannot for example get the SNR clicking on the map. But Jim is working on other products. In fact, according the various emails and answered he has provided me, I suspect him to be currently working (or to think seriously at least) to a new product a la WinCAP that will incorporate some IRI submodels as well an advanced version of this MUF map... wait and see.

GeoAlert-Extreme Wizard is available as a 60-day-fully-functional trial and can be interfaced with WinCAP.
GEW is sold $20. But it comes free if you order WinCAP Wizard 3 at $65. A must for all serious in propagation.

Without doubt that this major feature will be copied by his competitors one more time ;-)

Other propagation products from Jim Tabor can be read on my site in the Propagation section at
http://www.astrosurf.com/lombry/menu-qsl.htm (including VOACAP, WinCAP and a review of most available products)

Hope this helps,

NB. See what displayed its competitors when calling a MUF global map...
The precursor, W6ELPro :

Some new enhancement by G4ILO, HFProp :

But none of them use the VOACAP engine and use a zoom function.

An indispensable tool  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
This is an indispensable tool for the serious DXer and contesteer. The past series data plus the automatic updated solar data and full geomagnetic report download are a must. Besides this application feeds the gathered data to the excellent WinCap 3, the most reliable propagation prediction software.

Great Accesory  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
This is a fantastic accesory for the radio room computer. Residing in the system tray, I can quickly assess the current geomagnetic conditions with out having to browse a whole web page. This one's a Keeper!

I concur  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I concur with previous review report, great little tool to have on the ham shack computer.

Perfect for quick propagation prediction  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Great concept: All the important info for HF propagation is there at a glance (flux, A and K index, solar wind, etc) allowing me to quickly extrapolate both today’s and tomorrow’s general HF propagation conditions (conditions are also color coded red, yellow, and green for severity). I have used both full-blown raytrace and empirical ionosphere HF propagation prediction programs in the past, but ionospheric propagation is normally too complex to be completely and accurately predicted by computer, so this little Windows application is all I need to generally see if I can hit the HF bands with confidence, or save my energies for another day.
