Excellent Software  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have used HRD for several years and appreciate all the work that has been done to it.

I have gotten into remote operation of my TS-480SAT and HRD is perfect for the cause. The only thing I would like to see is an audio module for the remoting. At the moment I use Skype for the audio and HRD for the rig control. I would be nice to have it "all in one package", so to speak.

I also remote with HRD over a VPN (Virtual Private Network) as I stay in a lot of hotels, where I have no access to port forwarding. The VPN does away with that and HRD has performed flawlessly, no matter where I stay.

The DM780 package is far better than any other program that I have tried over the years.

If you are reading these reviews to evaluate whether or not to get HRD, I think the evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of getting it.

Good luck and thanks Simon....

it just plain works  Time owned: more than 12 months
A lot of people have said the right things, but one key thing is stability.

I run a remote base with HRD that gets locked in a box in the middle of October and not touched again until the middle of May. There are almost NO software products that run that long without rebooting, etc.

Read on if you want more info.

Fabulous Product  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have used this as an avid SWL-er, but now use it with my TenTec Omni VII transceiver.

So... what can I say, other than BRAVO AND THANKS. Great program. Logger is good (only improvement I would make is that it would be nice if it easily exported the name and address of a contact to go on an envelope or card when doing the QSL thing. Even better, it would be swell if it also exported the contact info (you know... date, time, freq, RST, etc.)

Other than that, it is wonderfully written, has a nice layout, and plenty of features - and the price is right - although I suspect we should all pony up SOMETHING to the author for his hard work - at least enough to buy him a cold one at his favorite local haunt. Too many features to summarize or list, but highlights for me are the capacities to decipher digital modes. Way cool program.

Loving it. /// James - K8JHR ///

Best thing since the watt meter!  Time owned: more than 12 months
What an amazing program.

I've have nearly stopped using other digimode programs in favor of the feature-rich Digital Master 780 and Ham Radio Deluxe. Although not as important as it's usefulness, you can't beat the price; Free! (Donate to the cause if you love it.)

Recently added was a few flavors of HELL. And the SSTV interface is like nothing I've ever seen! You MARS folks will appreciate the MT63, and CW users will find plenty to try too. Anyone like Domino and Olivia? Me too, and it's only a click away.

My personal favorite feature is the Reception Reports (TY N1DQ!), giving you the power to automatically provide a beacon-like service to your fellow hams.

Imagine how helpful it is to see if you're station is actually getting out. Or seeing if your fellow neighbor and DM780 user can see what you see. Wouldn't it be nice to know what areas and bands are active, in real-time?

If you haven't used the program recently and want to see what I mean, visit here to view a world map of who's currently monitoring:
http://psk.gladstonefamily.net/pskmap.html

(70 active monitors as of this post, and sure to increase as more learn about it.)

So, if you haven't used, or recently used, Simon's (HB9DRV) work-of-art, download the latest version here:
http://hrd.ham-radio.ch/downloads/downloads.htm

(Be sure to get the latest Beta. Stable enough and constantly upgraded. v3.5, build 1830 as of this post.)

There's plenty of support, screenshots, downloads, etc. Be sure to look around in the forums for rig-specific help and to learn more about both applications:
http://forums.ham-radio.ch/index.php?referrerid=9425

So, try it out for a few days. Takes a little time to get the hang of how everything works together, but it'll be worth the effort. There's so many things you can do with these programs, one might feel overwhelmed at first. Once you get the hang of it tho', you'll never want for anything else.

Feel free to view my QRZ.COM profile and email me with any questions or comments. I'd be happy to assist anyone I can.

Thank You Very Much for a Wonderful Tool  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
It is with Great Appreciation and Admiration that I have become a new Ham Radio Deluxe user and devotee after a simple and successful download from their website onto a modest laptop PC.

The developers did an amazing job developing robust features, a user-friendly GUI and integration with most every contemporary rig, even portation to old unsupported operating systems (like Win98 & ME). HRD certainly has a commercial quality and elegance and has opened a new world to me, and I further extend high regards, compliments and my sincere appreciation.

While I have absolutely no criticism whatsoever, my friend only wishes it ran on Mac or Linux.

And thanks to the folks at FluidMotion, I purchased a ready-made S-14 Y Cable that makes it convenient to also intergrate HRD and other software with SteppIR antennas and controllers.

Great program for free  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have used this program for a couple of years now and find that it is a great way to control a variety of rigs easily and effectively.I run 2 pc's in my shack with 2 radios on each pc.1 pc runs Yaesu Ft-2000 and Icom Ic-718,The other pc runs an Icom Ic-756 proiii and Yaesu Ft-897D and all being menu driven rigs HRD saves a lot of time and hassles doing minor on air adjustments. Most major controls are all onscreen and is also configurable to remove or add more control items on main display window as required (depending on what your radio allows). All in all you can never complain about a free program. It is free after all but when you get the odd free program that actually does what it is meant to and then more,You just have to tell people about it.Logging, Rig control, Dx spotting, Qrz lookup and more all for free.Give it a go what have you got to lose.

Great PSK + Rig control  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Setup is HRD, Windows XP on HP laptop, Rigblaster PnP with CAT cable, FT-857D. Works perfectly with Rigblaster USB/serial port driver. HRD gives the best graphical control of transceiver functions and PSK31 displays. Remember to contribute if you like it too. (No relation to either Peter or Simon.)
