Finally got that "round to it"
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months
|
Having purchased the 20 m version of the antenna, I finally got around to putting the thing up in the air. And after about a week and a half of operating, including the California QS party, I am here to tell you I am plenty satisfied with the performance. So without hesitation, I ordered 2 more of these antennas, including 10m and 40m versions. Using a 30 foot telescoping fiberglass pole, the antenna is configured as a sloper running from the top down to ground level to the east. I have made contacts from my QTH in Pleasanton California as far away as Japan and Hawaii in the West, to New Hampshire and Florida in the East. I couldn't be more pleased.
Included in my most recent order, I had Dale build a 10-20-40m version, which I just sent to a friend of mine in Southern California. I am going to make him like it!

Works Great For Me
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

My current QTH is not radio friendly. Cell phones don't work here, can only pick up one FM radio station and one AM station. I thought my ham radio experience was doomed to failure and frustration. I put up a small portable vertical on the trail behind my qth but because we're on the bottom of a hill (the top of 100 foot trees, don't reach the top of the hill)I could not even make one contact -- at 11 pm when 40 meters was booming for everyone in town, I heard whitenoise.
I ordered the 10-20-40 antenna planning to take it back with me when I returned home. then one day I was thinking -- what do I have to lose? if putting it up doesn't work, well at least i would have something interesting to do with radio's for an hour.
I put it up. 10' in the air. between two trees less than 10' from the apartment.
I've been using psk31 and my ft817 at 2.5 watts. I've worked stations 2000 miles away!
I like the antenna. I use it with a tuner for now.
High quality construction, one-time delivery, good customer support. I will buy more of his products in the future.

Excellent!

I live in a first floor apartment. I hang this antenna outside my window to a nearby tree and have the coax coming back through the window into the apartment. It works great. It takes me about 5 minutes to setup and 5 minutes to take down. Perfect for restricted areas.

6 meter PAR EF-6 end fed dipole
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

You can`t beat this 6 meter dipole for the price.I already had great luck with PAR`s SWL end fed dipole so I thought I`d give this antenna a try.I got a chuckle of seeing such a small 9 ft end fed dipole but the construction of the antenna is nice and I have already worked some sporadic-e with great signal reports. It`s rated for 100 watts and the antenna is built for the lowest v.s.w.r centered at 50 MHZ.Of course it doenst act like the beam we had at field day but it does the job for operating on 6 meters.

Great for travel
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I just returned from three weeks in Hawaii. I put together an Icom IC-7000 and the Par EF-20. The results speak volumes. I owe a great big thank you to Dale of Par for sending the antenna out so quickly if not at all. They had suspended retail sales in order to fill a military order. When I told him why I needed the EF-20 he offered to send it out right away.It would be hard to find better customer service anywhere else, in any industry. The antenna worked much better than expected, just take the time to follow the tuning instructions beforehand. It only takes a few minutes and it gave me a nice flat swr for most of the phone portion of the 20m band. It's small size makes it a must have for travel or restricted operations.

Great antennas
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

We live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland about 500 feet from a river. I purchased the 20m and 40m Par End-Fed antenna about 6 months ago, but did not use them right away. I have been using a G5RV with average results hanging in trees near our home 30 feet up. I am running an Icom 7000 with a LDG AT-7000 autotuner as a base unit, last week I put up the 40m in a tree running North and South and the 20m in my attic running East and West. All I can say is WHOW, I have been missing a lot of contacts on DX. These are great antennas, I plan to purchase another 20m to run in a tree vertically plus a 10m and 15m.

I have used the EF-20 Par Electronics
EndFed antenna for more than 3 years now...in several locations .... all in severe antenna restricted areas....
and the important thing is these antennas work (especially for transmitting)...I am making contacts...
Read the FAQs on the web.... they are helpful and important....and you can actually talk with Dale Parfitt..... Thanks Dale....great technical advice

Customized and made better!!

I took my 10/20/40 QRP End Fedz to Yellowstone last year and it worked superbly, as expected. This year I’m going to try something different. As I do backpacking, you real backpackers know that weight and bulk is to be avoided, especially on long hikes. So, this is what I did.
First, I removed the guts from the End Fedz tuner box (all the hardware, toroid, capacitor, and SO-239) and lovingly placed everything into a very small Pomona enclosure minus the SO-239 and hardware. The toroid just fit. The Pomona box already had a BNC connectors on both sides. So I kept the male BNC and substituted a banana plug jack for the female BNC connector. Everything looks like AA5TB’s end fed tuner, except there is no capacitor adjustment sticking out.
Second, for the radiating element I substituted 22GA Teflon coated wire for the heavier, bulkier PAR flex weave wire. This really saved weight and space. The heavier stuff is fine for home or permanent use, but in my opinion, too bulky for the field.
The whole 10/20/40 QRP END FEDZ tuner and wire now fits easily into a pocket! And it works as well as the unmodified version! But if you try this trick, you will have to retune the element(s) for proper length before you take to the field. It’s the same easy procedure as in the Par instructions.
Listen for me and my modified Par and KX1 when I again take to the field. Now you know what retired Quality Engineers do with their spare time.

Best single band portable antenna out there!!!
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

After a great experience with the EF-10/20/40 version I decided to order the EF-40 and can't say enough about it's performance. Very easy to tune (no tuner required nor should one be used) and low SWR across the entire 40 meter band. I run QRP and own several portable antennas (Buddipole, Buddistick, MP-2, Diamond BB-7V, etc.) and although the EF-40 only works on 40 meters, it beats the others hands down on 40 (provided you have a way to get some height). I use it as a sloper with the high end at 20 ft and matchbox at 6 ft. You can move it around too without having to re-tune. Antenna is very lightweight and the end fed connection for the coax makes for a much easier deployment than with a center fed dipole. My experience is all you need is a collaspable pole or tree to throw one end up into and the other end with the matchbox can be loose at ground level or slightly above. NO RADIALS REQUIRED OR SHOULD BE USED. My 5 watts allows me to work pileups and I consistantly get strong signal reports. Tech support is also great and even though I was told when I placed my order that it wouldn't ship until after July 9 due to military back orders, Dale got it to me before Field Day which was a real treat!!!

THEY WORK GREAT!
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months

I HAVE USED THE ONES FOR 7/10/21MHZ AND THEY ALL WORK GREAT. EASY TO INSTALL. WOULD BE EVEN BETTER IF THEY COULD TAKE 500W BUT DALE SAID IT IS JUST TOO COMPLICATED/EXPENSIVE TO MAKE A HIGH POWER ONE. DALE IS VERY QUICK TO RESPOND TO EMAILS.
IN USE IN THAILAND (HS0ZDR) AND FLORIDA.
