I agree that the speed setting is a little clumsy... but you can set 2 presets which worked for me. It also will key vintage tube gear using grid-block which more modern keyers can't. I had absolutely no problems with the memory batteries. One set lasted me 15 years... so maybe I had a later model.

Decent memory keyer with some design flaws: 1) It uses a keypad to set everything including speed, which makes it hard to do. 2) If you turn it off you lose all memory unless you install a battery, which doesn't last very long.
Other than that, I enjoyed using it for many years, until rigs started coming standard with keyers and computer logging made memory keyers obsolete.
Some advanced features include auto repeat and sequence numbering.

Nice keyer

Memory keyer that by turning off dash/dot memory I can get it close enough to type "A" to use the paddles. Lots of fun hours on CW with this keyer.
Another design error is the battery backup. The battery backup is draining anytime the unit is turned off even if connected to 12vdc. Mine is pulling about 20ma on the batteries-they don't last long.
AEA also went through different memory chips. cmos and TTL the cmos being a lower drain on the batteries so there can be differences in the units. on the 12vdc side mine draws about 100ma "on" and then about 150 ma keying but that number varies depending on speaker volume.
