This is a solar panel created for the military but is available to consumers if you can stand the price.
There is no glass to break or some crystalline cell that can fracture. Rather it's comprised of individual panels of flexible "advanced thin-film, silicon alloy photovoltaic solar cells" sewn in a camoflague nylon fabric.
Opened up it's about 2'X 3'. But the best feature is the Uni-Pac 15 can be folded into a package about 8"X5"x2" weighing about 3 lbs. Just toss it in your backpack/duffel/trunk (what have you) without fear of it being damaged. Supposedly it will continue to provide power even if riddled with bullet holes, or in partial shade. It can be dropped, stepped on, packed and re-deployed, while continuing to operate. However, at this price ($600 for the Uni-Pac 15) I'm not going to try to prove them wrong.
There are 3 models, the Uni-Pac 10, 15 and 30. I have the Uni-Pac 15 which puts out .9A at 17.6V and is designed for 12V charging. Perfect for mountaintopping with my K2!
Yep, it's expensive but if you want/need mil-spec ruggedness in a solar panel there is nothing else like it. Not to mention it's just got to be the coolest solar panel ever.
