CTCSS Bug  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
As Dave pointed out, there is a bug in the CTCSS decoding on the new 898T. Uniden is hopefully going to fix this problem. Until then, it's impossible to recommend this radio. The features, performance, and price are right, but as of now it's defective. Wait for a hardware of firmware update.

Stay Well Away !! CTCSS/DCS Problems With Most Units  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
When in either CTCSS/DCS mode or CTCSS/DCS search mode after a random period of time being powered on the scanner simply stops receiving signals on a frequency that has a CTCSS or DCS tone associated with it. The only way to solve the problem is to turn the scanner on then off again. It will go out again in the same time frame.

So after a certain time peroid (it varies with the sample) any channel that has a CTCSS/DCS it will just quit receiving these . Will sail right by these like there is no signal there. Once it does this and take it out of scan and manually select a channel that has a CTCSS ot DCS on it, it will show a full scale signal but the squelch will not break it. Non-tone channels (that have 000.0, no tone) will be unaffected.

Perhaps important Info : Problem was noted with the scanner in "Scan" mode (radio scanning) during the entire time peroid (before the problem occurs).

On my sample it took between 8 to 12 hours for this to happen. MANY others that are also having the same problem and are also reporting a variable time frame (up to 3 days). A master reset does not clear the problem.

As of the date that this text is being entered here, Uniden has no cure.
