Great old rig
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
Bought mine from EBay. To be honest, I didn't expect a lot of this old transceiver but it continues to surprise me. It's a simple design, valves throughout with transistor oscillators. Drift is minimal after a short warm-up and the receiver is more sensitive than some more recent radios I have. With only a single filter available, this is an SSB radio. The filter is too wide for serious CW use. The 7360 balanced modulator valve/tube is now a rare item and the 6JS6C PA bottles are also becoming scarce and expensive. That said, I *really* like this old rig.
It covers 80-10M with no WARC bands (too old!)
It's a simple radio to work on provided you take suitable care with the 300V and 600V HT lines.
All those valves help keep the shack warm... could be an issue in summer.

Great Back up rig
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

New,these rigs went for $399 and the outboard power supply was $99.These came in either white face or black face (later models).I have several of each and just love them.If you see one of these at a hamfest, grab it as it is a great back up rig and usually go from $125 to $200. My original black face is still in service as a cw rig and the white face is the back up SSB rig. Also one is used as a low leval driver for an amp in AM service.Great audio quality on AM

Great old radio!

Recieved my Tempo One from my cousin WB9MWQ (SK). He had bought it new when he was first licensed back in 1975. Never had new tubes in it, but I used it until the late 1990's whem the finals finally gave out. For all the contact it made for me, I would not trade it for anything!

Loved this sweet little package.

Bought a Tempo One brand new and used it hard
for at least 2 years. No, its not a Kenwood, or
an Icom, but for what they sold for they were
worth every cent.
