Description: Double Conversion Superheterodyne. 11 Tubes plus semiconductors. 29lbs. 18.75"x8x9.75" Model SX-122A introduced in 1967 cost $395.00 and went up to $550.00 in 1971. Hallicrafters dual conversion design and excellent sensitivity made the SX-122 a favorite among hobbyists and collectors alike.

Product Detector makes the difference.

The inclusion of a product detector is what separates this receiver from previous Hallicrafters general coverage receivers. The product detector makes SSB and CW reception a pleasure and eliminates the possibility of getting "blasted" by a strong signal. Not as "pretty" as an SX-100 but a lot more practical for present day amateur use.

Really nice G.C. RCVR. One of the last great Hallicrafters.

Nice G.C. receiver that would easily tune SSB, CW, and AM. Controls were "human engineered" and built into a veritable tank, not unlike most Hallicrafters equipment. Mr. Halligan believed in "brute force stability", achieved in part by sheer weight and rigidity. My only complaint (and this may be only with my particular radio) is a noticable (6 dB) fall-off in sensitivity above 25 MHz.

Excellent Radio

Bought mine used in 1967...was my mainstay Ham receiver until 1973. Used for SWL until very recently, and still have in my hamshack as an outboard receiver to monitor my signals, get WWV, etc. Best receiver I have ever owned, and even today, one of the most sensitive. If you can get one, they are a piece of history that is still very useful.

Great sensitivity

Hallicrafters built the SX-122 like a tank. This radio has four bands covering .54 to 1600 Khz and 17.5-34 Mhz. Its two IF stages at 1650 Khz and 50 Khz allow the listener to enjoy CW and SSB broadcasts. Aside from the super sensitivity this radio has, the tuner and bandspread dials spin effortlessly assuring very fine tuning. I expect this radio to provide many years of great SW listening. - Mike KG6UEQ
