Why buy what already exists on your radio?

I originally thought that this "One Touch Tune" button would duplicate my tune button on the Icom 706MKIIG. Meaning a low power output carrier for tuning of an autotuner. What I received was built extremely well built and of good quality parts. How it performed is where it fell flat on its face. This add-on duplicates an existing function in the FT-897(D) of outputing a full power carrier by pressing of an external switch. This function is already provided by Yaesu on the accessory jack through a 3.5mm stereo plug. Shorting of the center pin to ground will provide a carrier at whatever the RF power is programmed to. The W4RT module tricks the radio into going into "packet" mode and outputing the same carrier at the same power level. Plus if you happen to be in memory mode at the time of the button press, you have to press it twice to get the carrier. More work to get the same results as provided by Yaesu. W4RT puts out very good stuff, but this one is not well thought out. Save your money and invest in a 3.5mm stereo plug and a push button switch at Radio Shack for $5. Page 18 of the FT-897 manual describes the hookup.
