Work Horse

Had mine now for ten years, works fine. Early on I noticed it would not supply under load of transceiver tripping the transceiver into reset mode. Opened the case and noticed the soldering not all that good. Resoldered joints, tightened screws, and it worked ever since. Had I not had this problem I would rate a 5 out of 5. This supply has been on continuously since I purchased it with only brief exceptions.

I've had my 50M for better than 15 years, in almost continuous operation. Did a recommended mod with bypass caps when I first got it, other than that, never had it open. Right now it runs two HF radios, a two meter rig and a couple of accessories. It's been on a few field days and countless contest weekends, never a problem, never gets more than slightly warm. I expect it to be running just as well 15 years from now.

Bought my RS-50M in 1994. Its still working fine but.....when I first got it, I noticed smoke trickling from the case when in use at about 20 amps draw. Luckily nothing was damaged but upon inspection with the top cover off, I noticed loose bolts (pass transistors, etc) and poor soldering. Rather than paying $$ to return the unit I resoldered / tightened and its been A1 since. Quality of components a 4.9... Quality of assembly a 0.0... with an average of 3.0...Hopefully Astron has closed the loop on this since.
