Solidly made, accurate VHF/UHF wattmeter  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
The SP-45M is a beautifully made analog wattmeter. It's in a solid metal (no, not plastic) case and is sized for base or perhaps mobile use. It is the old fashioned type -- not cross needle -- so you do have to switch between forward and reflected power. Power scales are 100W, 20W, and 3W so these meters are wonderful for most any modern VHF/UHF rig in the shack or the typical handheld. For the VHF/UHF QRPer this is also a fine meter but it's probably a little bigger and heavier than you'd want for mountaintopping.

Accuracy seems quite good. Unlike newer products the meter is not backlighted, a minor drawback. The meter is large enough to be easy to read. Frequency coverage is 140 through 470MHz.

The Welz SP-45M was sold by Encomm in the U.S. and when they went out of business these meters disappeared from the U.S. market. Welz products continue to be made in Japan and sold overseas. The net result is that most American hams don't know what they are and they can be had very inexpensively on the used market.

I like both the construction and appearance of the meter and it works the way you'd expect. Highly recommended.
