Disappointed  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Downloaded and set it up with no problems except it chose the wrong default bit rate to talk to my Pro 3. Then I realized the developer(s) used non-standard Windows objects. Among other things it means the stacked forms are hard to differentiate. I'll be able to get used to that, so let's see what this baby can do. Whoa, even though the log entry form is taller than the fixed resolution that my laptop can display, THERE ARE NO VERTICAL SCROLL BARS. Therefore I can't see, or get to, the bottom of that form. And that's the most important form! Easy fix: close the program, open Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs, and after a couple of mouse clicks it's gone. Too bad.

Does It All!  Time owned: more than 12 months
HRD Log is just great! Not only is it very easy to use when integrated with HRD rig control, QRZ and the built in spotter, but add into it DM-780 and HRD Rotor and you have complete control.

I have my station set up with an Icom IC-756 Pro III, IC-PW1, MicroHam DigiKeyer II a WaveNode WN-2 and a home brew coax switch that interfaces into the parallel port. I also have a TailTwister with an Idiom Press Rotor EZ card with serial interface.

When I see a spot I'd like to work, first a double click to QSY followed by a right click and I have an Add Log Window. In that window is the beam heading from QRZ databases. Double click on that heading and the rotor slews over to the heading. Make the QSO and click ADD and it's in your log.

Not too sure why others are having issues with the rotor and beam headings. Mine has worked this way since Version 4.

Free...You get what you pay for.  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I have been using AClog for a long time now, and recently tried HRD logbook since I was using the HRD DM software for PSK31. The one thing I really dislike about the software is the total lack of beam headings when you type a call in. That and the layout of the logging screen just does not seem intuitive to me at all.
If someone would come up with a build with a beam heading in more than just the Cluster window it would be a far better program, that and a less cluttered layout.
Does it work? Yes. Do I enjoy using it. No.

Good but!  Time owned: more than 12 months
Update to my earlier review. I have been using HRD for some time and it is a good piece of software, that you cant go wrong with if you have a non rotating antenna.
Here is the problem, I am about to put up a 10 element Optibeam, I started looking at the program for the standpoint of using a beam, Oh oh there is an issue. No beam headings! none at all, unless you subscribe to QRZ, then there is a very small heading at the bottom of the info. This is a huge issue, that I don't get because there is beam heading info in the cluster why not when you put a call into the box??, and If you are using DM780, you will never get beam heading info, unless you somehow open QRZ or the rotator, and put the call in, Now for the rotator, put in the call and it gives you beam heading for that country and not the station, example, I live in West Va, I put into the rotator a call for Florida, it gives headings for the middle of the country, like Missouri or something.
Why not just simple heading info when you put a call into the box, would not be that hard. Every logger I have used does this, I do not know why, this does not. This is a great piece of software, except for that one issue, and I really like it, Oh well I will have to stick with Logger32 and Fldigi, and N2MAG, really an unbeatable combo for digital modes, hope they add this some time so the good logger can become a great logger. If you do not use a beam no worries, If you intend on using a beam look for a different solution...

Difficulty controling FT-990  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I would like to save a great deal of ham's a great deal of time trying to use the radio control feature's of the program with an older radio like the Yaesu FT-990. Although the program say's it support the radio, I have not been successful in getting it to work with the radio. It does not work with the RigTalk nore Prolific hardward and drivers. So do not waste your time nore money on this aspect of the program with this radio. I have not found anyone with this radio on HRD's help website either. If there is anyone out there who knows how to get it to work with the FT-990 radio I greatly appreciate the help! N1RIT

I really like it  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I used Log-EQF and Win-EQF for years; but got tired of the old UNIX look - yes, appearance matters to me! I used AC Log for a while and it was fine. I really like HRD, even though I don't use the "advanced" features just the logging part ... for now.

It's very intuitive and easy to use and I have it on three different computers - the shack computer which uses Windows 2000, my netbook which uses XP, and the main family computer which uses Vista. It runs well on all three, except the shack laptop tends to be a bit slow in loading up. It runs well, once loaded however.

I like having the grayline map at the click of a mouse - I like the way the fields set up so easily the way I want them - I like the way the DX Cluster and the frequency maps are there when I want them and go away real fast when I don't.

Someday, I hope to get with the 21st Century and finally use all the rig control features and such. it's nice to know that when I grow into that, I won't have to change software - or even worse, buy something else!

An A+ product  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I have my ICOM 756 Pro III, ICOM PW-1 amplifier, Ham Radio Deluxe radio control software, Ham Radio Deluxe logging software and Digital Master 780. All systems are integrated together and they make operating a seamless effective operation. There are so many positive items to reflect upon this review space would not do the software justice. If you are not utilizing the software to fully integrate your shack you're in the dark ages.

Once you review all of the capabilities of the system you will be totally amazed at its complete functionality.

You can't be without this one!

PS: Donate some money the software is free

If only...  Time owned: more than 12 months
HRD is implemented very nicely and looks great but it lacks functionallity.
To evaluate a logging program, I guess you need a reference. Let's take Logger32.
HRD has NO indication where to beam to without knowing the grid locator. That's a major flaw, and I mean MAJOR! I don't know of any logging program missing this basic info. Not one, even Hyperlog back in the previous century had it.
When working in DM780, you can't see where to beam to at all, not even with the grid info. You have to open a separate "add" screen to clutter the screen even more and hope for a grid locator.
If not, you need to open the rotator screen (yes, another screen) and manually type in the dx callsign. Back to the stone ages...
HRD is a program to run on 2 screens. You get far too less info on one screen. This means you cannot use your other screen for checking propagation, track digisondes, MUF, PSK reporter, WSPR or whatever without switching back and forth.
HRD is way too slow on an average pc. The bandmap cannot follow the transceiver while tuning, dx info is appearing too slow and the info is rather basic, the bandmap in DM780 stutters when tuninig while showing real frequencies, logbook actions and refreshments are slow.
Also, the bandmap is not really a bandmap. When receiving many spots, it changes to a mere list with undistinguishable lines to undistinguishable frequencies - useless. There's no "worked/not worked" info in the bandmap neither.
On the DX cluster window, you can see only ONE thing at a time. Or spots, or announcements, or WWV or the console. You have to switch back and forth all the time.
If you want to send a spot, you need to type in the callsign manually.
You have to pay attention if you have several logfiles not to show "worked/not worked" data for a log you're not using at the moment and for not adding DM780 qso's to a log you're not using at that time. All has to be reconfigured and aligned again when changing logfile.
I don't get the "main page" neither. Can someone explain why you need a full screen to show so much secundary info in such BIG fonts? Is it for the visibly disabled?
On all above points which I see as rather important, Logger32 is lightyears ahead. Especially combined with flDigi (N2AMG).

The Best Logging software  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I've using HRD Logbook Version 5 since 4 months ago, for me this is the dreaming Logging software ever in the ham radio world, the fully integrated with QRZ, DX Cluster and ease of use, is amazing...
must use!!
The only problem for me is when we want to customize the QSO Labels, sizing and setting the margin could not be done.
but overall it's OK, and free!!
