Description: The Ham Radio Deluxe Logbook is a free, robust, feature rich, logging program for Windows based personal computers. It is one of the suite of free Ham Radio Deluxe programs created by Simon Brown HB9DRV with Pete Halpin PH1PH. The Logbook program is included with the other Ham Radio Deluxe program files in the master self-extracting file available from the Ham Radio Deluxe website.

I'm an HRD Fanboi

Okay, I've called other folks Fanboiz for their "rah-rah" treatment of other programs. It is only fair that I admit to being an HRD Fanboi.
Love the program, love the integrated packet program, DM780, love the logbook. Could wish for more contest templates for the logbook, but I can live with that.
Simon listens to his users and is an active ham. When I complained I couldn't turn on my Kenwood TS2000 from HRD, *Simon listened and added the functionality.* You can't beat that with a stick!
It just keeps getting better!

The Best Ham Software

I´m using this fantastic software since march 2008, till now it has been the most complete package for using with my rig, the many upgrades, the fast response from the programmer makes this software a must have on shack.

Top Shelf Logging Program

Just a note to say I really enjoy this program, after trying several others that I need not mention.
Among the attributes of this logging program are it is well thought out, easy to maneuver, it has a really nice appearance, and it’s *fun* to use.
Not to mention that downloading, installing and getting the program running is easy and straight forward.
After trying several others, only to wind up uninstalling them, I highly recommend this program. The creators of this program offer this great software for free of charge. My hat goes off to them for a great effort.

I wont rate the logbook based on HRD's other features (It is a great rig control though).
It is difficult to get it to work as a contest logger, but... I still use it like that when necessary.
You can easily change which database you want to use to log in. So I have a blank .MDB Access Database file I can copy with a new name and then point the logger to it for use. That way for example, my Field Day contacts are not "mixed up" into my regular QSO contacts.
Since it is an Access Database, Ive been able to easily write an ASP.NET script to parse my logbook. Now I simply update my logbook database file to my website and the web application does the rest. Yes, my logbook is on line!
It does work fine, not perfect- but not too far from perfect. The price is hard to beat!

Great, Free, a tad overloaded, and missing something

First of all, I have to say that HRD is a really cool program, and is an outstanding combination of features, at any price. The fact that it is free is icing on the cake!
That being said, I have to give it only a 4 rating, as in my mind it is missing a key feature. As it stands, in order to get a beam heading for a new station entered into the logging window, you must connect to QRZ.com and get a grid square locator. It would be much more functional if HRD simply defaulted to computing the beam heading from the Country list, which has a lat/long for each country.
The use of QRZ.com is cumbersome, and requires an internet connection. What about operating with a laptop from locations without internet? Even with good connection speed (I have cable), it is a slow process.
HRD already computes beam headings using the country file locations in the packet window – why not when logging a new contact?
I’ve asked for this feature as an enhancement request; hopefully they will include it in an upcoming upgrade.
The concept of exporting data to Google Earth is nifty, but also very slow.

that hasn't already been said about this excellent software
Thumbs up to Simon and Peter for giving everyone such a wonderful program. I've spent hundreds of dollars on different logging programs over the years that didn't offer half what HRD does for free not to mention the different radio's that they have to keep track of. These Guys really understand the true spirit of Amateur Radio.

I've tried many logging software programs, and this one seems to work the best for general logging. I've only scratched the surface, but it's already overcome some issues that I might have had with other programs, such as inputting qso's from a paper log from an old callsign to be uploaded to LoTW...the program handled that task just fine. Saving logs is easy, and the rig control is absolutely wonderful. The only trouble I'm encountering is simply a difficulty with the program switching to TOR mode when I switch on my 500Hz cw filter, but I don't blame that on the program at all...and that's no big deal anyway, since I can always modify the qso info after the fact. So 5-5 all the way...

Great piece of software

I have tried many different programs. I wanted something with decent rig control, not just logging. Among about 10 programs I tried, there were two that stood out: DXLab and Ham Radio Deluxe. Both perform well. DXLab e.g. has memory banks where you can store frequencies and settings. Ham Radio Deluxe didn't seem to have a feature like that. But it does. It's called "Favorites" and it does the same and more. The Ham Radio Deluxe interface is beautiful to look at. It is very easy to control your rig, much can be accomplished through the use of your arrow buttons on the PC-keyboard. It takes a while to discover how really well devised the interface is. All the features are there.
So DXLab is good. Ham Radio Deluxe is even better. I also have a Macintosh and use MacLoggerDX on it. It is a pretty good program too, but not as good as the two mentioned above. And it costs money. There is just not much to choose from for a Mac.

I've been using HRD since 2003 without a hitch. It's run on an old Windows 98 machine, ME, and now XP and I've had zero problems.
There is a relatively small number of hams who rise above the rest to give us all something incredibly useful...and Simon (and Peter also) are among that group. Their software is in a class by itself, something you'd expect to pay hundreds of $$ for, and they share it with us for free.
In four years I've still only managed to scratch the surface of all the useful features of this software.

Been using the HRD program for about two months and have never even had a glitch in the program. I love the logging portion, especially its tie-in with the mapping feature. I don't know how I ever got along without HRD. Its the greatest!!!
