Built like a tank

One of the best investments I ever made in the Amateur Radio field. This antenna, like all Mosley products, is built to last a lifetime. The forward gain and F/B are as good as or better than Mosley specify. It’s been through one Nova Scotia winter and took all the wind, snow and icing nature could throw at it without blinking. There are other alternatives for the WARC bands, but if you want 30/17/12 on a single antenna with near monoband performance, this is the antenna for you. It’s a killer on 30 and 17 (at the bottom of the sunspot cycle it’s difficult to comment on 12, but during the few openings we’ve has, it was a “first call, in the log” antenna.) At 55 lbs it’s manageable on the average tower and having 30-metres is a huge bonus. The 2007 N8S DXpedition to Swains Island (latest DXCC addition) used three of these antennas, and I know why! Highly recommended – you can’t go wrong with Mosley.

Here's an interesting antenna that you don't hear much about. It's essentially Mosley's old Classic 33 tribander reworked for the WARC bands, including 30 meters. Boom length is 18' and all three elements are active on all bands. I chose this antenna over the Cushcraft AW3S duobander because of the 30 meter coverage. It's really cool having a directional antenna on 30. This beam exceeded my expectations. This antenna is head and shoulders above the dipoles and verticals on 30, and is no slouch on the other 2 bands. Mosley's construction is simple and rugged. They have some of the best hardware going. The only construction anomaly I noticed was the predrilled holes in the elements were off by a few degrees. This rotated the traps so the drain hole were not exactly on the bottom, but not enough to effect their function. The boom to mast clamp is a bit of a handful up on the tower with its spacer blocks that are easy to drop, but effective once installed. I've read recently of some hams having trouble getting timely delivery from Mosley when ordering, and I was no exception. The antenna spent several months on back order while the weather grew colder outside. Antenna growing season is short at 9000 ft in the Colorado Rockies. They claimed the boom material was back ordered. But when it finally arrived, I wasn't disappointed in the performance.
