Disappointed

Purchased several of these on sale for friends and family and have been disappointed with the SAME decoding. Even with a full quieting signal, the alert tone often does not go off; it is not reliable on any of the 3 units I bought!

Bought one from Walmart (WR-100C) and it does not decode SAME alerts at all. Returned and got another and same results. Had a chance to the check the second unit to my Recom when a tornado watch was issued.
The Recom showed alert and also logged to message history. The Midland wr-100 just sat there....no alert and no message in hold. Back to Walmart.... It's getting harder as I have had it over 90 days. Midland is no help and the warranty shipping costs do not warrant the trip. Probably just send it to the dumpster. Any one know about the PC program port on the back?? Of course no info from Midland. For whats its worth... the receiver works ok and the audio sounds good!

Worst Piece of Junk Ever

This radio worked for the first two months that I owned it. Then it started having serious issues with interference.
I finally purchased an adapter and connected it to an exterior J-Pole antenna. Improvement??? Not at all. I was baffled. So, I opened the radio up and noticed they put in a connector but didn't wire it to anything. I yanked out there connector put in a BNC soldered in a small piece of coax and improved the quality of reception dramatically.
Until of course the radio finally died. Did a little messing around and discovered that it has issues when it receives an alert, you have to unplug it, take out the backup batteries, and let it sit until it clears the memories. Then reprogram the thing. This is completely unacceptable.
Now- I am in the market for a new Weather Radio with S.A.M.E. I want something that is made of quality and has metal shielding to protect from high RF Noise (especially useful for us hams) is that to much to ask for?
Don't waste your money on this radio.

Picked one of these up at Lowe's for $4.98 on closeout. S.A.M.E. decodong worked fine during the last few thunderstorm alerts the NWS broadcast. Has battery standby. Sits there and minds it's own business most of the time.

I purchased 3 of these at the local WalMart. I had one prior to this. Each one purchased did not work. The SAME was programmed but I never got an alert on any weather alerts even on the wednesday tests. Each one I took back to WalMart and got a new one. Calling the company in Texas did not do anything other than the company asking I send it back to them. It must have been a bad production run but when I saw that they are now making the thing in China I then dropped the idea of finding one that did work. Guess all good things must come to an end.

After recently seeing WKRC,WBNS,and WHIO TV team up with Kroger Supermarkets and offering these for $30, I decided to get a second Weather Radio for the House.First one is a Uniden WX-100 and it has faithfully served me for 3-4 years or more now. This one was easy to set up thanks to the quick setup guide. Some of the Kroger stores I spoke with in trying to find one,stated that after it was put on TV they sold like hotcakes.They were ordering more. One Kroger in Dayton was taking names on a list so they could call people when they came in. I would recommend this to anyone.It is a great radio receiver.Lives could depend on it.Yours,your family's,and others who may be warned because of your Skywarn report of other items after the initial alert. Be Well! :-)

Nice Unit

Low's has them on closeout for 5$. I bought 4 for family. Picks up well and SAME is set to any. I would rather get up and turn it off than miss something I need to know about. Compares to others at 50$.

Recently overnight tornados swept through the area killing many with no advance warning to the sleeping residents. As a public service, a local supermarket chain brought in truckloads of these radios and sold them at blow-out prices. I picked up one and am happpy with it. The sensitivity is high enouogh to pick up stations even from the surounding counties. The audio quality is good, and it is easy to program. Overall this radio performs its function well and for a very reasonable price.

Works Too Good

Got me up at 1 AM for Tornado Warning that ended up killing people in my county. It's a well built unit that works as described. The loud warning alarm will blow you out of the bed, which is what it should do. No problems at all with this rig, and I would recommend.

WR-100C works fine

I bought a WR100C from Amazon about 6 months ago and as far as I can tell, it works perfectly.
I notice that they also list the WR100-B, but it costs more. Strange.
I tried to figure out the difference but have been unsuccessful..
