A very good CW decoder
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I was looking for a good CW decoder as I typically copy just in my head, but like to get a 'fill' every now and then. CWGet does okay, but at times falls short on weak signals. MRP40 is much better in my opinion, especially on weak signals. The key to using almost any CW decoder is to disable AGC in your rig, if at all possible, and this program is no exception. Set audio level to a normal range and then use RF control to establish a good level of signal detection threshold. The included oscilloscope display provided helps some in performing this adjustment, but one can usually do it by listening to the volume of received CW audio levels. What I would like to see is an easier way to load multiple instances of the S/W, but the author was gracious to provide me a second key. I'd probably use it for sending if it had a WinKey interface like MixW does. SO for now, I use MixW as a typing buffer and this program to receive with - hey, it gives me an excuse to get dual monitors!

Very nice software. It helps me a lot for DX and contesting is I'm not very able to decode CW at high speed and also is useful to test if your decoding is correct or not. Try it and you'll buy.
When I nedded help for a new installation Norbert answered me in one hour !Great ! 49,90 € spent very well.

The Best CW Decoding Software You Can Get
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
|
|
I have tried every CW decoding / keyboard CW program I can find. I did about 6 months worth of research. There is nothing that even comes close to MRP40. It is a military communications quality program. You can download it and use it free for 30 days. I can't say enough good things about this product.

It decodes too?

Have been evaluating MRP40v61 for a couple of weeks. But Morse decoding doesn't interest me all that much.
I wanted an excellent Morse keyboarding program for use with my Top Band Warbler project for those frequent occasions when I use the rig on 160m CW.
Essentially, the TBW is a LSB rig which accepts audio from either a mic, or, as in this case, audio from a notebook PC's soundcard output.
It also uses the PC's Com port RTS signal for t/r switching.
MRP40v61 handles both chores brilliantly!
I noticed a minor anomaly in the action of the transmitted characters' buffer and wrote Norbert about it. In 24 hrs time, he emailed to me a new .exe file which eliminated the bug.
And, I wasn't yet a customer!
With this level of service *before* the sale, did I then purchase a license for this software?
Yes, I did!
And, I happily accept the bonus of the excellent Morse decoding features!
72!

Excellent Programme
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

An update to my initial review of 30/08/2004:
Nearly 3 1/2 years on since my first report I now have 135 DXCC in CW mode (94 confirmed) using MRP4060 which means that it works. Also many IOTA contacts and it has performed flawlessly since day one.
I have the programme installed on both my PC and my Toshiba laptop and I have changed bits in both. Twice I required a new unlock code as the registration number changed. MRP4060 with its recent update (thanks Norbert it feels "smoother") to 4061 also produced a new registration number. Whilst I agree with comments that this is a bind to his great credit both my PC and Laptop were provided with new unlock codes by return email so I must give credit and thanks to Norbert for this immediate response.
I note mention of the cost of purchase and in all honesty I do prefer to support programme writers and coming up to 4 years of pleasure using MRP4060 (4061 now) I think it money well spent especially as to do it the proper way is impossible as far as I am concerned.
While I would prefer a different protection system, (still worried about Norbert getting hit by a bus which would make future updates impossible when changing PC bits) on the programme with his current excellent support I am still happy to give 5 - Great!
I am also a registered owner of MixW and use this for digi modes only for in comparison with MRP4061 whilst it does an excellent job I do prefer MRP40 for CW, especially for its clarity.

Unbelievable performance for CW decoding
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I have been using MRP40 (v4060 now) for the last 2 years and I am very satisfied with it. I have tried MixW, MultiPSK, CWGet, PK-232, ERA Microreader, SkySweeper and Hoka and it is better than all of these for decoding Morse Code. No question. CWGet can come close sometimes on well sent Morse but the ability to instantly adapt to speed changes and QSB makes MRP40 superior.
I have had to request a new unlock key twice due to changes in my computer hardware and have always received a quick and nice reply from Norbert.
The program costs a little more than many of the other programs I listed but if you demand the best CW performance then it is worth every penny.

Excellent CW De-Coder
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
|
|
I've been using MRP-40 for 5-6 months now. It works better than many other CW de-coding programs I've tried. Had to build an interface for my transceiver which was simple to do. It has de-coded many weak, close together signals that would be hard to do in your head. Yes, its not cheap but it works excellent for me. N3JNX

i find the software to be excellent but what good is it if no one purchases it because the cost is prohibited.especially those of us on fixed incomes .retires which a large portion of the cw ops are at the retirement age.it is a shame that ham gear is priced out of reach for those of us who are not rich.i do have a couple of programs that do work almost as good as mrp that cost in the twenty dollar range, mixw being one of them and it is just as gud if not better considering all that it does and it does it gud .i was abt to purchase it and so were my club members but 60 dollars is a bit much for just a cw program.norbert come down on the price and you will probably quaddrupal your sales .agn tnxs fer ur contribution to our fine hobby .just wish more of us could use it .BOB W B 8 D G K

Best CW decoder available
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I have been using this program for almost seven years now, ever since MRP38 which was the original DOS based CW program. I have tried a number of alternatives, both other software (CwGet, MixW, etc.), and hardware (Kamtronics, MFJ, etc.). I use it partly as a backup for copying high-speed and noisy CW, as well as providing a good hardcopy automatically of the QSO on my computer for logging purposes. The spectrum display on the computer is also really useful for tuning and zero-beating your rig.
This is definitely, hands-down, absolutely the best available system for CW copy in QRM and poor sending currently available, short of the human ear itself. Your ear will always be best, but MRP comes surprisingly close!
Other software systems typically fail because of QRM, poorly formed CW and/or frequency drift. The decoding algorithms in MRP40 just seem designed much better to handle this. I have found most hardware alternatives to be pretty useless, plus they don't provide a hardcopy of the QSO.
Most negative comments about this software fall into these categories:
1. This is neither freeware nor shareware, and the author protects his Intellectual Property aggressively with a short and unbreakable trial period. Expect to pay for a license and also to pay for software upgrades and when you upgrade your computer.
2. There is only one author and he alone provides all support. I must say, though, that the 2-3 times that I needed technical support over the years, he has always been very responsive and friendly.
3. All CW software requires a fairly fast computer and a good soundcard. Although I am comfortably using a 4-year old Pentium III machine, anything slower really won't work at all well with MRP40, especially the graphics. You will also notice "jerky" CW send if the computer is slow.
4. It only works CW - there again, that is exactly its strong point since most of the value of MRP lies in its specialized CW reading algorithms...
If you are OK with these four main points, I can recommend this software to you unreservedly. It is very good value and performs as well as current technology allows.
See you on 40m / 80m CW !

Like Decoder Program

This morse decode program will copy sloppy code better than any other program that I have tried.
The graphic display does a very good job of showing the user whats going on. The AFC is a nice feature for tuning. Does track speed well.
