Very Useful

I am just back from helping another ham put the end of a G5RV back up in a tree, thanks to the EZ-Hang. Up on the first try. I have used it in my own yard on several trees. Sometimes you get lucky and hit the right branch, but sometimes it takes a few tries. Sometimes the fishing line breaks, but most times it does not. I use the tennis balls rather than the weights because of lost weights on a few tries. The tennis ball attachment works just fine for my pine trees which are 60-65 feet in height.

Need to figure out the spool first
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
I got my EZ Hang only yesterday, and have since been entangled in the spool and the line. The instructions on the EZhang website are really frugal, like someone writing a telegram.
Anyway - great product, works great, I got one line up before it started to rain and I am back in. YOu really need to know how to open the spool because the line really does get entangled if it is not under tension while winding back. Worse, it gets wound either behind or in front of the spool, ie not where it should go. THat means it gets stuck at that point when you fire the next shot, the line doesn't go freely and either it breaks mid-air, or shoots right back at you like a bullet because it got stuck.
FOr someone who has never used a fishing line before (like me), figuring out how to open the thing to unentangle the line is a challenge. No instructions on EZHang (they should really put a tutorial up with pictures) or on Zebco's website. Anyway after a good battle I ultimately figured it out, and hope to get out soon after the rain stops.
Also shooting angle is important. Shoot at something like 85 degrees vertical, else the line will wrap the whole tree while all you need is a single limb.

Works well for me

Time owned: more than 12 months

I bought one of these at Dayton 2009 for use at a summer rental cottage. I agree wholeheatedly with the comment that it takes some practice to get familiar with it, but it is not difficult to master. I usually just put up a 40M dipole and I have never had my temporary antenna higher or better situated than when I started using the EZ Hang. This last summer I hit both spots I wanted on the first try, so the learning curve really isn't too bad. I have also used it a few times for Field Day too. I does what it was designed to do quite well and I am glad to have one.

Its ok

It does work, but you have to practice before getting the hang of it....however, there's a much much better way to go....a friend built one of the compressed air potato guns and it easily (I mean easily) shoots a line 100' in the air, or less by using less air pressure.
The "Spud gun" runs circles around slingshots and you can find plans to build your own on the Internet.
Cheers All...

GOOD PRODUCT
|
Time owned: months

I have seen one and used it and it worked well. Its a good product. However rather than buy one I did make my own version and it works well also. So yes, people can and do make their own. I see no problem buying an EZ HANG though. From what I have read its a good product and a good company as well. Its all good. :)

Great Product, Does What It Says

I've had mine for about two years and have used it to raise 12 antennas now.
Unless you're best friends with Dennis The Menace (who always used to have a slingshot in his back pocket), it's best if you practice with it a couple of times before you try your first launching. It's no different than hitting a baseball or putting a basketball through a hoop or casting a fishing line - you need some practice before you're able to make it happen.
With practice, I find that I can reliably hit my spot up to about 50 ft high. After that, I'm less accurate, but I've gotten the tennis ball at least 80 ft high.
Recently a buddy borrowed it, and by specifically NOT following the directions, he managed to get the line well-tangled in the reel. Being a city boy who doesn't know his way around fishing reels, I called the company for help. Someone (I think the owner, whose name I've forgotten) called me back within the hour. He stayed on the phone with me and carefully walked me through the process of opening the reel, untangling the thing, and then getting everything put back together.
Good/great customer service on a product that does exactly what it claims to do at a reasonable price. I know that some people have complained that they could have made one for less, but if that's the case why didn't they?

A simple but effective way to hang a wire.

I acquired my EZ-Hang when they were first introduced about 10 years ago. Since then I’ve hung so many antennas at Field Day and for friends I’ve lost count. I actually wore out the reel to the point I had to replace it. It does take some time to get the feel of the device but it beats the heck out of bow & arrows and other improvised devices I’ve tried in my opinion. I’ve shot lines into trees approaching 80 feet high with few problems. I always replace the line at the beginning of “Antenna Hanging” season, as monofilament tends to become quite difficult to work with after it’s been on the reel for a while. A good product at a fair price.

simple, and flawless!!

I've had the EZ hang for ...must be ten years now?? Used it at two addresses, and many field days. At Dayton once, the guys at the table gave me a bunch of extra yellow sinkers. Sure wish I know what I did with them....but I'm still on the original one! Every tree I've debated putting a wire over...one shot, and its done. Tie a string to the monofilament, pull it up and over...then tie rope to the string and pull it up. Simple, and as I said....flawless!!

Dont bother

I've had this thing for several years and never used it, so now I was in need and gave it a try. Shot it up, the fishing line got got up in branches and while attempting to being it back in, the fishing line snapped, also the reel broke. Not sure if they have made any improvements to this piece of equipment but I just threw mine in the garbage.

Using the EZ Hang is the easiest way to put up an antenna that I can imagine.
As background, I have NO experience with either slingshots or fishing reels. So, I had a bit of a learning curve. That is, my first experience wasn't exactly positive - at least not until I figured out how the reel worked, and what I was doing wrong. Spend some time learning about the Zebco reel. Simply put, there is nothing wrong with the reel. It is sufficient for the purpose.
Does the EZ Hang cost too much. No. Can you buy the parts and put the kit together yourself, cheaper? Maybe. But the slingshot is well thought out, and you can spend a great deal of time running around gathering up the other items. I'd rather be putting up antennas than driving around looking for parts.
Just this evening I found that my 40-80 trap dipole was a casualty of some recent very high winds. I had to replace one support rope. In a total time of 1 hour, I replaced the broken rope, secured the antenna, cleaned up the "mess," put the EZ Hang away, and had worked two DX stations on 40.
There are perhaps better tools for erecting wire antennas in trees, but my tallest tree is only 80 feet (!) tall and this works for me. I expect it can handle 100 foot trees easily. I also find a lot of other uses for it, too. But, that's a different story.
I got the kit, and I'm glad I did. I highly recommend this produce!
