Needs Improvement  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I have used the 1105 a great deal in the last 3 months. It seems to be well made but lacks in band selection. The little Eton E 100 cost half the amount of the Degen and covers all the bands. The Degens all have very poorly built antennas.I have yet to see one that is firm that looks like it will last for years. The 1105 does have 1000 places you can store stations which is very nice. The radio does recieve well off the antenna but the antenna is very poorly made. I wish that the 1105s could be purchased in the USA because the Degen radios have had problems.I like the 1105 but save your money and get a E100 for around 25.00 on Ebay.

Very quiet set. Easy to bandscan with a 5Khz increment by pressing up or down button. Tuning knob can be set on slow, 1Khz for off tuning to lessen interference from nearby occupied frequency. Frequency is displayed to 1 KHz resolution. Tuning knob can jump/skip over frequencies if on fast, 5Khz rate. Although I like to use a tuning knob for scanning, the jumpiness forces me to choose the up/down button. Fortunately, there is no muting or delay in response to pressing the button. Selectivity is quite good. Audio is clear despite the narrowness of the single filter. Dual conversion. 1,000 memories for those interested in that. No ssb. Wonderfully lit up when any button is pressed during nightime use...all functions and buttons are illuminated.

My disappointments concern the occasional background intrusion of local am/fm's...minor, but unwanted. I was expecting sensitivity to be close to the DEGEN/KAITO 1103, or even the ETON 100 or Mini 300PE. Although the set is ok in sensitivity, it is not as sensitive as those sets. I still could pick up All India Radio on 9690, and BBC from Singapore transmitter on 9740, and VOA off of the Phillipines transmitter, so it isn't deaf. Dynamic range is good...stations which overloaded the ETON 100 failed to overload the DEGEN set. I over rated the ETON 100 as a 5. The DEGEN is easier to tune around, and is more attractive. I would take the DEGEN 1105 over the ETON 100.

To add a little to my review, I found that the bleed in of AM/FM's into the SW bands was a bigger problem outside of the house.

There is an easy fix...If the radio is held so that a finger (thumb is real convenient) makes contact with the antenna, the AM/FM bleed in is, like magic, gone. Amazingly, and thankfully, there is practically no loss in sensitivity when douing this.
