With the way things are going, this is probably a must-have for every ham. Great book, well written, has stuff about solar cells I never knew but ought to. This book has it all in one place, so just get it.

Michael Bryce's book is a must read if you're considering installing an emergency power system. The book not only covers solar power, but also wind generation as well as going over what to look for if buying a gas or other fuel electric generator.
He includes really informative chapter on selecting and maintaining a battery system.
The book has separate chapters on charge controllers and batteries -- of course, the author goes into great detail on the design and implementation of an emergency power system showing the reader how to calculate your load and the number of panels, charge controller and batteries to run this load.
Speaking of solar panels, Bryce does a good job explaining the differnt kinds of solar panels and their advantages and disadvantages.
Well written, WB8VGE's book is the best I've seen on designing and installing an emergency power system be it for portable use, back up emergency power or as the primary power source running an entire hf station.
Cheers all!
