nice oldie
|
Time owned: 6 to 12 months

I bought one on ebay. I had to repair/allign a few things. I use it for local chats.
You can not compare it to the modern rigs but it is still usable. Especially for fixed channel use. Scanning the band requires fidling with 4 knobs.
The FM filter is too wide for the 12.5 KHz raster we use over here. It does not like strong stations 100 KHz away either. The FM IF filter is a small ceramic filter. Replacing it may help.
I did not use it on SSB So I can to comment on that. It does have a decent xtal filter though.
It is a nice collecors item that is still usable.

Good very old 2m transciever

This is the first of the SSB-FM rigs on
Two meters. They were very reliable but
they where tuned up for around 146.000
Mhz ( We have 4 Megs in ZL on 2m )
They had no varcap tuning like the
FT221 and the Dial was hard to use
but they worked and I still use mine
today. They were called the Clock Work
Orange after the film and if you own
one you will see why. There where
lots of these units sold in Australia
and New Zealand. 73 Murray ZL3MH
