Great power supply

The GSV-3000 is a great power supply for HF radio. I have it more than 1 year for use on my TS-2000 and IC-7000 , quiet and no rf hash.

For one year I use the Diamond GSV-3000 Power Supplies for my Icom 7400.
Veru goodperformance, very quiet and smooth operation, no heat or noise . Highly recommended for the price!

Lower quality?

I own a pair of linear power supplies Diamond GSV-3000 version of the European Union (CE).
The European model is limited in current to 25A and the feature is shown on the instruction sheet.
Looking at various photos found on the internet I noticed that the European version seems to take a transformer with an air gap differently.
When power supplies are subjected to even minimal current absorption emits buzzing and vibration due to the processor.
22 A continuous absorption with no operating anomalies.
The overall quality is average for these products even if they could do better.
The fact very annoying, however, is the emission of a strong shrill whistle from the area of the cooling fan whenever it stops after having fulfilled its function.
Yes, the fan makes sibilance when it is not running yet!
When the fan runs it's ok .... and did not receive any hiss.
I'd like to rate this product with a high grade.
But because of the vibrations present and the rather annoying hissing noise when the cooling fan is not working I have to resize my vote.
Two units both show the same characteristics of operation.

I have the new model, made for Europeans.
I didn't know when I bought it that this type of new model is only 25 Ampere limited and not 34 as we can see on the pictures on the web.
The Current meter seems to read the average value and not the PeP....
with my rig at full power (100 watts) my gsv3000 only read about 15 Ampere...
when I go on Tx on SSB and without speaking, I can read about 5 ampere!!!! what?!?!?!?!
I am on SSB, not AM !! I shouldn't have any carrier !!!!
the fan makes sibilance when it is not running yet. when it runs it's ok....
only my gsv3000 failed ????

Works well but . . .

the fabrication Quality is low: The Voltage adjustment Knob is shaky, it easily moves up and down when touching it with a Finger slightly and then the Knob touches the Cabinet when turning it, totaly ANOYING !
My 100 Watt HF Transceiver takes ~17 Amps max. according to the GSV-3000 Scale, yet when I transmit with 100 Watts, the LED Light is going darker when I am speaking, as if the Power Supply was running out of Power but actually there is more Power than needed for a 100 Watt HF Transceiver. My GSV-3000 has a CE Certificate and is limited to 25 Amp, Serial Number is 905****5.
This is a good product (4) but not great (5). The lower fabrication Quality i described earlier makes me rate it 4, else I would rate it 5. There is no Problem such as strange Noises, fluctuating Voltage etc. The Fan is quiet, quieter than the Fan in my Icom IC-746 Transceiver but not as quiet as the Acom 1000 Amplifier.
I payed 120 Euro (new), that's about 160 US Dollar, for such a Price I CAN expect better but after all it is a solid Power Source.

I have now used the GSV3000 for almost 2 years. A few months after my first review (March 2007) I bought a new IC-756PROIII HF transceiver and about six months later a new IC-910H VHF/UHF transceiver. Both are connected to the GSV3000 with various accessories.
After extensive use, I am in full agreement with other reviewers who say: "...you simply connect it and forget it". That is so true. I recommend this power supply to all hams.
Nevertheless, going back to my first review, it still bothers me that Diamond made the feet too small in my opinion...

I have been using the Diamond GSV-3000 PSU for several years now. It has been working trouble free with my FT-920 rig, & several vhf / uhf transceivers connected to it. Recently I bought a new FT-450AT, & had it connected up with another 25amp ( Not Diamond )PSU. This PSU has now developed a fault which I thought I had dealt with in the past but the fault returned again, so I have decided to give up, & purchase another new PSU. With no doubt, I will be going for another Diamond GSV-3000 Linear PSU.
I thought of going for a switch mode PSU, which are much lighter, & easier to fit in any shack rack, or shelf, but having had a trouble free PSU like the Diamond GSV-3000 for several years, I will with no doubt head for one the same, which I know it will give me many pleasurable hours on radio, as the other GSV-3000 still in use with my other radios.
This is a work horse !!!
Well done Diamond, & I hope they don't do away with linear, & heavy PSU, they will last a life time.

I bought one last year to replace a very old 20 Amp. unit. Turn it on, set the voltage, forget it. I use it to simultaneously power the K2, the FRG-100 and various accessories; no more wallwarts, they ALL radiate at some frequency.

For a couple years I use two of the Diamond GSV-3000 linear Power Supplies for my 12 Volt transceivers.
Excellent performance, very quiet and smooth operation, no heat or noise what so ever. Highly recommended for the price!

If you need 50-60 amps at up to 15 VDC, connect two GSV-3000 in parallel.
You should use a 0.1 Ohm resistor in series with each +ve line and the other ends common and connected to the load.
This prevents one supply from grabbing all the load.
Resistors can be made by winding 30-35 feet of 14 awg copper wire on an air former, a bit like an HF coil.
