A Pearl Beyond Price...
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
I managed to pump a 100w signal into the antenna port of a Mk5 Field. Needless to say, I was in need of some repair work. A Friend suggested I consult Mike's website.. which I did. He has a policies page that succinctly explains his operation and how he does business... I strongly suggest that if you wish to get your radio repaired by a competent tech at a fair and honest rate that you read that Polices Page before pestering him.
AFTER reading that, I contacted him via email and explained my moronic and inadvertent use of the MK V as a dummy load and requested a repair appointment, he agreed to accept the radio and gave a date for it to arrive at his shop. A quick check with UPS indicated it would take 3 days to reach him and so, three days before it was expected in his shop, I shipped it and notified him of it's track number and expected arrival date.
The day after it arrived, I was contacted by Mike via email with the damage report, repairs were completed, payment was made Via PayPal and the radio was returned via UPS.. all within a week.
The damaged parts were returned with the radio, the radio functions 100% as it should, the entire process was a pleasure, the price more than fair and Mike is a Pearl Beyond Price.
If your smart enough to read and follow the policies and directions for contact, packing and shipping he has on his website.. if your competent enough to communicate via email.. then you may be lucky enough to have use of one of the sharpest tools in anybody's ham shack!

Repair of IC-706
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
I picked Mike for 3 reason:
1) Bellcore no long repairs 706s
2) He had great reviews here
3) He was close so there would be no time wasted in shipping.
One of the things that impressed me even before I sent the rig off was Mike had a web page describing a common problem with the IC-706. From the description I was 90% sure that this was the problem and that I might be able to fix it myself if I had to.
Sure enough once Mike got it he confirmed the problem and fixed it. The most expensive part was shipping.
I think he is a very honest person.

Mike recently updated and installed some options into my IC-765. I had researched the recommended updates and purchased the optional filters, diodes, etc for the work. Mike advised me of when to send the 765 to him (his schedule) and what I could expect for return. Not only did Mike flawlessly perform the option installs, but also found Icom recommended changes which I had not. He was in touch with me during the work and gave me advice regarding why not to perform certain modifications I requested and as to which ones would make any real difference. He calibrated and re-tuned the rig and burned it in for several days before returning it to me to make sure that all worked as expected. In short, I cannot say enough about the quality and integrity of Mike and his work. Finally, his bill was very reasonable. Jim, N1JR

Just had Mike make repairs to my aging IC-736. He figured out what was wrong before I sent it to him, He communicated via email at key points
and fixed it within a week. He even returned the replaced parts. I'll use him again without question.

Mike recently repaired my 80s vintage IC-R71A receiver. Not only did Mike take care of the immediate problems but, he gave the radio a complete going over and used his extensive knowledge and experience to take care of a number of potential issues with this older radio. I was extremely pleased with Mike's work, his attention to detail, his communications, the turn-around time, and his very fair pricing.

I had an issue with the PLL circuit in my Kenwood TS-680s. Mike resoldered the areas in question and replaced the meter lamp and memory battery. Where it was an intermittent problem, he kept it for awhile to make sure the problem was fixed. He also has good communications and very reasonable prices.

Amazing service!

My ICOM IC-746 computer interface (CI-V) took a lightning surge and failed. In addition, I had been fighting another intermittent problem for some time. I decided to see if I could get both issues resolved, with one repair shipment.
I did some Google searches for a good ICOM repair shop and found some great reviews of Mike N1EQ. WOW, am I glad I chose Mike! His website is very clear on what he charges and how he charges, and how to pack and ship. He communicated quickly and clearly from start to finish. He took extra time to make sure the problems were resolved before shipping back. The repairs were done VERY quickly and the charges were much less than I had expected (especially for the amount of time he must have put into not only the repair, but his communication throughout the process.)
I would not hesitate to send any of my gear back to Mike! No wonder his ratings here are so high, with service like this!

ultra fast turn around, minimum charge, and even used the parts I sent along for the repair.
responds to every e-mail, and tells you when shipped, with a tracking number. 5 out of 5
