Wonderfull Tranceiver  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have the Yaesu FT 2000 D from 2007 and for me is a wonderfull equipment. I enjoy the equipment with a lot Dxs contacts, never I had a problem, receiver is so sensitive and with 200 w it is no necessary to have linear amplifier. (No ITV problems...) I am radioham from 1966, have others transceivers (Icom, Yaesu, etc) but the FT 2000 is the number one. When I detect a station, sure that 200 watts Ft2000D make the contact. No problem.-

FT2000 with NS filter of AC0C : Fine !  Time owned: more than 12 months
First, don't buy FT2000 with a serial number less than 44 :
http://inforadio.free.fr/ft2000/w0dxcc_2011_comparaison_des_performances_ft2000.pdf
Harware changes have been made from this serial number.

This explains the poor scores for the FT2000 on eham.net (OE1TRB for example).

The protection against the blown pre-amps was added too.
I kept the link below :
http://radioamateur.forumsactifs.com/t920-tutoriel-pour-depanner-l-etage-preampli-du-ft2000

F6FCD compared FT2000 and Elecraft K3 : Sensibility of FT2000 without AC0C filter
is better. This confirms what AD9P said.

I bought the filter of ACOC (NS Filter, roofing filter - 3 kHz).
It is very usefull and you can heard some records here :

(Use google Translate)

See on :

Very fine filter !

Go to http://www.ac0c.com

Other bad score of FT2000 is due to bad settings :

See at
http://radioamateur.forumsactifs.com/t916-reglages-importants-du-filtre-dsp-filtre-de-contour-du-ft2000
without forget AGC...

You can hear some records of FT2000 here :
http://radioamateur.forumsactifs.com/t1211-exemples-d-ecoute-sur-ft2000

If you want other records, send a mail to me at : f5pbg @ free.fr

. NB and DNF work fine.
. DMU : A computer do the same job, not necessary...

Otherwise, in transmission, all OM say that my modulation
is fine with the origin microphone MH31.

No problem about power... The S-meter give the average power...
Keep in mind.

For info
Serial number : 61 - 2010 August
hours of operation : more than 10 000

Best regards,

pep upgrade ........  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I bought a Used FT2000D with the 1st Firmware. Did the famous pep upgrade und expected To get a real better RX performance To Be able To compare it at least with my Icom IC-7400! But I was surprised that the dsp performance was and Is still medium.... And not compareable with the level Of the 7400.nevertheless now the ft2000 Works as many users expected several years ago like me. All the best To the New FT 5000 users , I will stay with Icom. 73 de Thomas

FT2000 good radio N4VG  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have owned several Yaesu radios through the years and never had any trouble with any of them FT101, FT847,FT817, FT990, FT1000D, FT1000MP list goes on and on. The MP is very close to the performance of the FT2000 . I have owned 2 of the FT2000 and had absolutely no problems with either . In fact, never had a failure with any Yaesu product. I run high power AL1500 with the radio working DX on SSB . I dont know anyone who has a problem in the Birmingham area with theirs. Maybe I am just lucky but I hate to see the radio bashed. 73 Mike N4VG

Needs work  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
On July 17th of 2011 I experienced what now seems to be the very very common problem of losing the pre-amps in the receiver, I called Yaesu and they were very nice and supportive I sent the radio back to Vertex /Standard in California on my dime (roughly $ 75.00 from the Midwest ground shipping by Fed-Ex) On July 27th the radio was repaired and sent back out from them and arrived to me on August 1st once again I had a nice transceiver. Yaesu had replaced the follow component: G3333567D-transistor 2SC3356 -T2B R24

This past week Sunday September 4th early morning while tuning across the 20 meter band I again had a deaf receiver. The same scenario as the previous event July 17th 2011 that lead to the failing pre-amp. Both times the FT-2000 as I recall the unit had the pre-amp 1 tuned on. As band conditions hadn’t been all that great and there were a few weak signals on the bands.
I am at this point really getting frustrated with the FT-2000 and started looking around to see if this happening with other owners of the FT-2000 series and found many here at eHam (look through the reviews) and several other sites that have experienced this same issue some like me experiencing this more than once. I have read and exchanged emails with several owners who have experienced the blown pre-amp (s) or mixer(s) on numerous occasions 4,5,6 even 9 times. At this point with the number of FT-2000 failing with blown pre-amps there has got to be a design problem. I can see this possibly happening on a low number of units say maybe due to a bad batch on components, but it appears that this is happening very frequently with the FT-2000 series and from other emails I have received the past couple days even the higher FT-5000 series units as well.
On Tuesday September 6th I called Yaesu and let them know that once again I had receiver problems with the pre-amps. I spoke with a nice woman who explained she was sorry to hear I was again having problems especially since I had just received the unit back from them at almost 1 month prior for the same issue. Again I was told I needed to send the unit back to them (well here we go again $75.00 to ship it back) and they would look at it, when I asked about the shipping she said they would check and if the same problem would cover my shipping cost to them, At this point I am really starting to feel I have made a very bad mistake at purchasing the Yaesu FT-2000. I asked to speak with a technician again she was very nice and transferred my call. After a short period of holding I spoke with a Vertex / Standard tech and I explained what problem I was having and that the unit was just received back from them on August 1 for the same issue. The Tech was also polite and did listen to my issues with the radio; I explained what I found to be a growing number of FT-2000 owners experiencing this problem and what they intended to do to resolve it. He explained that they are only there to replace the defective component(s) and what I suggested as others have as well there being a design problem with RFI getting into the receiver was others opinions and Yaesu was going to re-design the unit. And that RFI was most likely the cause of repeatedly losing the pre-amp(s)
I then asked isn’t this suppose to be as outlined on the Yaesu website and brochures a Contest friendly radio correct:
Tech: Yes sir it is
Can you then explain if I do not have any other HF radio in my home or even close by me (only other radio I have was an older 220 HT) just how this is supposed to be a contest environment radio as during a contest here is most likely to be much more RFI about then my using it in a home station with no other HF radio about.
Tech: It has to do with front end overload:
Okay, well what about the claimed “Outstanding Strong-Signal-Handling Capabilities Derived from the FTDX9000!”
It is at this point that I feel sick and realize I have wasted roughly $2600.00 of my hard earned money on nothing but an RFI magnet.
Sure Yaesu will once again fix the bad components (I of course will have to spend money to ship it to them and hopefully get a reimbursement of my shipping costs).
Question is what happens when the year warranty is up the design flaw once again rears its ugly head and now I am left having to pay for the repairs myself and shipping both to and from Yaesu. Personally I feel this radio needs to be gone through and redesigned there is an obvious problem as many of them continually having blown pre-amps and or mixers and a lot of them repeatedly doing so. Yaesu has a lot of very un-happy consumers of the FT-2000 series and they don’t seem to really think there is a problem with their design; obviously the many folks who are having this issue feel otherwise and we as consumers are being the ones who are getting the shaft and paying for Yaesu problem with the FT-2000 series.
Knowing what I do now with regards to the Yaesu FT-2000 series I would have never purchased one to begin with. I have basically spent over $2600.00 dollars (Plus my shipping costs for repairs) for what is now being called an RFI magnet. That being said once the unit is fixed I will cut my losses which I am sure will be a large amount of my hard earned money since this radio is only 7 months old and get rid of it. Which is totally unfair to the consumer who has nothing but problems from this series of Yaesu Transceivers and is offered no other choice but to do so?
Yaesu needs to make this right for the many of us who have purchased this product and find some way of correcting the issue.

NOT A GOOD CHOICE  Time owned: more than 12 months
Had one for two years and same problems with receiver going deaf! Sent to Yaesu two times last time the last and final third time was the last for me! High serial number 2009 sure dont understand on how you can manafacture a rig that cost almost $3K and design is flawed. Had a MKV Field what a great receiver! Its a shame Yaesu couldnt continue it same type of quality.I have a Icom 7600 far better receiver thaN the FT 2K and better yet no BROWN TRUCK TRAVELS

R.I.P.  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
RFI kills this radio. Yaesu did not ground any of the rear panel connectors to the rear panel!!! They only get a DC ground via the circuit board. Yaesu did it right on my friend's FT-101E. Apparently that engineer has retired. Why does this matter? Because in a high RF environment RFI can easily get inside the case and blow up the receiver. Just ask the numerous hams who have sent me email. They have the same problem I had, blown preamps. After replacing the preamp transistors I finally sent it in to Yaesu for repair. They replaced 14 additional components including capacitors! The final solution for me was to sell the radio. If you have no RFI problems in the shack then you will never see this problem. But if you take the rig to Field Day and the receiver suddenly seems deaf you will know what happened. Oh, your sub receiver is probably blown too.

Very Good  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
After comparing the FT-2000 with my K3 I find very little difference. Elecraft is a much more customer frienldy company however. I only have the stock 2.7khz filter in the K3. Under no circumstance did I find the K3 all that much better. The K3 is just hard to listen to for a long period of time. Were as the 2000 just sounds better to me. I like them both. I now want the the FT-5000. The K3 has been sold but I held on to the FT-2000. Lots of things about the 2000 that stand out, such as the build quality, built in P.S., Great transmitted, and receive audio. In short the K3 is a good radio but does have some issues. The Ft-2000 is a good radio and it also has some issues.
But overall based on cost, performance , build quality I think the 2000 is the best bang for the buck.

Thanks

"Stock" not for DX-ing  Time owned: more than 12 months
I sold mine because for close in signal rejection, the "stock" radio doesn't cut it. The K3 runs rings around this radio. I hoped upon hope that the "PEP Upgrades" would have improved on its "DX-abilities", but it is apparent now - from those who have added the 3 khz filter that Yaesu really dropped the ball hardware wise.

This radio has some of the best ergonomics of any radio I have ever owned, and if you are more into SSB or rag chewing or "ESSB" then you won't mind that on CW - you get blown out of the water in the pileups by close in signals. Its still a good radio - stock - but not for me.

I really don't think the owner should have to modify the rig (thus affecting the warranty) to make it perform like its advertising suggests "It has the DX DNA of its bigger brothers".

DNA Hogwash.

FT-2000D  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I bought this radio brand new last year, worst thing I ever did, it’s just terrible.
I could go on all day, but its been said before by many. The worst thing was the RX noise floor, just rubbish. Even my IC-7400 would knock the spots off it!
Lucky for me after two weeks the dealer took it back, I had a IC-7600 in its place, proper radio. Good bye Yaesu!!
