OK for base ops  Time owned: more than 12 months
Had this mobile for a couple of years and had many memory problems. Although I will admit this started over a year after installation. Removed it and use it in the shack with a power supply with no issues. Do like the power output but I wouldn't recommend putting in a lot of memories if you go mobile.

Good Rig  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I use the FT-2600M in the shack. I have unplugged the p/s several times and I have not experienced any memory problems. I have run the rig mobile, too, with great success. Mine put out 65W without adjustment. I did have the deviation turned up a bit.

The only beef I have with this rig is that the control buttons on the microphone (A thru D) are not active like they are on my FT-1500M. That's the only thing I'd change.

For me it's been a great rig.

Bad radio  Time owned: more than 12 months
Having had two of them with same problem no wonder they dropped it! NO memory. Had the second one back twice and still no memory! And they want me to spend 3k on and HF rig? I don't think so!

Can't afford the shipping!

I just bought my second one.  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I just picked up my second FT-2600M from the local ham shop that is closing. At $79 for his demo unit I couldn't say no. This is the first time I've ever bought two of the same radio. I've had the first one riding in my truck for the last year and it has never given me a problem. The controls are wonderful to use when driving. The mic has a great fell and is not too busy to use (Hello Icom!) and has an honest-to-god mic clip on the back (again, Hello Icom.)

The front mount speaker is great for cars but you'll want an external one for a noisy vehicle. The display boasts 8 alpha chars which is really handy with all the memory slots the unit comes with. On touch of a mic button starts it hunting for PL tones, very handy when driving.

It's too bad that Yaesu discontinued this model. They seem to be making room for the FT-2800. If you can find one of these for sale, pick it up, you'll be happy. I like this much better than my IC-2100 because of it's simple operation, extended alpha display, better mic, and 10W more to boost. It also has a nice DB9 connector on back for packet/APRS/IRLP work.

All the bells and whistles  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
The FT-2600M is what I consider to be a fantastic rig. It was amazingly simple to program and provides way more memories than a person could ever use. The only problem is that it gets very warm during long QSO's. I am quite happy with the rig considering the price and the amount of power that you get for your buck. Rig is built very solid and will probably last longer externally than internally. Nevertheless, everything that I asked for and more.

Great radio for the money!  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I am new to the hobby of Ham radio. This is my first 2 meter rig. I did do alot of comparison shopping: power, memories, cost. I payed $159.00
from HRO. And I am already considering purchasing a second one for base/QTH operations. Buy one today!

Solid  Time owned: more than 12 months
I've had this radio for a couple of years now and it is built like a brick [well...you can fill in the blank] It puts out a solid 60 watts, has more memories than most would ever need, is easily programmable by computer, great audio, and built to mil-spec. Currently HRO is selling them for $169. Who could ask for more? I went out and bought another one for the house. I also had an ICOM 2000H which although not a bad radio, did not stand up to punishment like my FT-2600M does.

Excellent IRLP Node Radio  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
The FT-2600M makes a great radio for a simplex IRLP node. This rig fully supports CTCSS through the data port and works well with my Plug and Play solution. Visit http://www.irlp.net/16-requests/pnpsolution.html for more info.

Nice but not perfect  Time owned: more than 12 months
I've owned my 2600M since the fall of 1999. Functionally it works great. No significant problems. The only issue I have with it is a snall, high pitched noise in the speaker Rx background when the display backlight is on anything other than full brightness or of. In other words, on any dimness setting other than full on or off the speaker has a whine in it. Yaesu was willing to take a look at it, but who wants to be without a radio for weeks to have such a small problem tweaked. I either run the display full brightness or off. I also think the heat sink would dissipate heat more effectiely if it were on the TOP of the radio (like the 2500M) rather than on the BOTTOM. Last I heard, hot air rises. Which probably means this review will start to float away any minute. ;-)
