Super Meter for the money

For 149.00 or less one has to look high and low to find a better P.E.P meter. I checked the accuracy against my Coxial Dynamics and it is within a watt accuracy on average and PEP. The actual meter is large enough to actually see and the light gives off a nice glow. I wired my meter into my 13V outlet on my Mark-V so when my radio is turned off the light goes off. I run the meter in line with an Alpha 99 and am not afraid to run legal limit. This meter hangs in there like a champ. I have had this meter for over a year and had no problems what so ever. If you are considering a nice meter with PEP this is a winner. Way to go Diawa!!

Seems to be a pretty nice meter and it does work much better on PEP readings than the older version but I really question it's accuracy. Seems to me that it was just a little too easy to pin the needle on the 2KW power scale with my AL-1500 at low drive levels. The 200 watt scale was a little giving as well but not off by much. I'd say that it would be the perfect meter for someone planning to run 1KW or less. The large meter is nice.

After 25 years of a Swan WM-2000, I thought it time to move to something more in line with todays radios. I liked the looks and functionality of the 801HP and specifically liked the "true PEP" capability. The meter works perfectly and tracks the readings I get on my Bird 43. As as side comment, I use this meter with my Pro III and get the power for the PEP circuits and lamp in the meter from the voltage provided on the remote tuning molex connector, used for the AH-4 tuner. This will allow for the power to be turned off to the meter when you turn off the radio.

No peak hold or reflected power in PEP mode.

The meter works as advertised and looks really nice, but I found two operating conditions that made me take it out of service. 1) No peak hold on PEP mode, have to be quick to read the scale. 2) Reflected power does not read in PEP mode, AVG only - why not Daiwa?. I have been using the Autek WM-1 for years now and I guess that I am just spoiled to it the way it works. The meter is a 5 on its own, but with the two short comings I'll give it a 4.

Just received mine from HRO.Main use is 144-147 MHZ. I needed a combination SWR & Watt meter that can handle at least 400 watts. This is one of the only VHF meters I could find at a decent price and style. It works! I tuned up with my Icom 746, and TE 1452G and gave the meter about 375 watts, and the meter was accurate. I like the blue light, powered by 13.8vDC, which I hooked up to a small radio shack power supply. Overall a very good crafted meter, solid, and does the job.

I first saw this meter at Ham Com 2006. I've been in the market for a really nice meter for a while. I didn't win the one given away at the Lone Star DX Association dinner that evening so I had to shell out the buckeroos. My first one I had the Forward needle was stuck and wouldn't move. Bummer! I exchanged it for another. Good thing my local Ham Radio emporium is just a few miles away. If I had to go through the hassle to ship it back somewhere I would have really been P.O.'d. Got the second one all hooked up and I had to figure a way to power the PEP function and meter light. It comes with a power connector with wire but you provide the juice. It would have been nice if the unit had an on/off switch. So I got the bright idea to hook the power into the 4 pin molex connector on the back of my Icom that interfaces with my auto-tuner. Pin 3 is 13.8 volts and pin 4 is neg and powers up with the rigs on/off switch. All is working well now and considering the choices out there I suppose I would buy it again. Still would be nice if there was an on/off switch. I gave it a 4.

I have buy my CN-801HP before 3 weeks ago (125€).
For this price it is one of the best wattmeter
I have ever use.
The design is great with blue backlight.
The needle-meter is very large to see all 100%.
The PEP work's also with real true output on the meter. NOT smal power, it is the REAL TRUE power of PEP. My IC-7400 (746pro) have 100W and on SSB the PEP needle meter shows always between 80W-100W. On AVG he shows between 40W-85W.

For $149 you get a lot of metering features not the least being true pep output measurement from 1.8 Mhz up through 200 Mhz. Accuracy compares spot on to my former meter a CDI-83000A (also a superb meter) Large illuminated meter face that glows more then "lights up" with a soft green/blue color. Single bulb that appears easy to replace. Requires 13.8vdc for lamp *and* internal active PEP circuitry. This meter I have on dedicated 2M duty (TE 1452G) A second CN-801HP arrives later today and will see dedicated 6M duty (TE 0552G). As this is a "honeymoon review" I reserve the right to report back later should the need arise. Right now after about 12 hours I find no fault with this meter at all. I give it 5 stars for value, bandwidth, large meter face w/illumination, direct no calibration swr readout. For the $$$ no other meter can touch it. 73, Charlie-AD5TH
