Good for the price

Amazed to find a stand-alone wireless rain guage for so little money. Discovered this one on my US travels whilst visiting Sidney, OH Wal-Mart. It survived two flights in my hold baggage before being installed in my back garden at home in the UK. Has worked reliably for the last two months.
Backlighting feature is good, as is the option to change display between inches and mm at the push of a button.

New & Improved

My Acurite Rain Gauge has served me well. Acurite has replaced this model with a New & Improved Acurite 00614 Wireless Rain Gauge, which has better accuracy and features:

The New Acurite 00614 Rain Gauge is still a Great Value from WalMart at Only $28, satisfaction guaranteed.

Accurate, Reliable, Outstanding Value
|
Time owned: more than 12 months

I have had the AccuRite Wireless Rain Gauge and Complete Weather Station for over a year, and am highly impressed with the accuracy, reliability and value.
The rain gauge only required one battery change through the period, and keeps producing reliable and accurate readings in all weather, even well below freezing. After taking a reading, just hit the Reset Button, and the "See-Saw Bucket" empties out at quite a remote distance(in my case on top of the roof), and then resets to 0.00 inches. It has a battery indicator for both the indoor and the outdoor units, backlit large LCD display, inch/mm support and even an Alarm feature. Two decimal places are accurate and sensitive enough for even brief showers and drizzles that read fractions of an inch (ie--0.12 inches), and there are many other features that I have not even explored yet.
The AccuRite Rain Gauge & Wireless Weather Station installed at my beach house, has survived the hurricanes and Nor'Easters of the Jersey Shore, where the breeze is constantly blowing since the minute it was installed.
Customer Service is SO OUTSTANDING & CONVENIENT !!! If you have a problem, not satisfied, got a bad unit, or want a refund, return or exchange...just take it back to a WalMart anywhere in the USA. For ONLY $20, You Cannot Beat It !!! Why Pay More for overpriced ($100+) models or $100+ rain gauge options for a weather station that lock you into their proprietary weather station and their expensive, overhyped junk and options ? For about the price of shipping on a weather station alone, you can have this neat Wireless Remote Rain Gauge, and for ONLY $80, get the COMPLETE AccuRite Wireless Weather Station with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature, Humidity, Barometer, Wind Speed & Direction, Wind Chill, Dew Point, Moon Phase, Atomic Clock, etc., Satisfaction Guaranteed or return/exchange..ALL FOR ONLY $80 at your local WalMart (hardware, mailbox aisle) !!!
Far better, far cheaper, far more reliable, far better in customer service...than the Expensive Peet I had.
Buy It !!!

UPDATE!

I previously heavily discounted the rain guage and ended up taking it back and got another one. The 2nd one i came home with works great and has not missed a beat. I also have installed lithium batterys and no problems so far. Good little rain guage for not a heck of a lot of $$$.

Great Quality & Price

This is a nifty, cool, decent quality BARGAIN at Walmart. I also bought their wireless weather station which costs only $80 and does more than Peet. It features Indoor/Outdoor Temperature & Humidity, Wind Speed & Direction, Exact Atomic Time & Date, Barometer & Graphic Trends, Weather Forecast and Moon Phase...all on a very attractive LCD display. Much better than Peet, much better quality than Peet, it's wireless and much cheaper than Peet.

This is a great unit for the price.
Compares quite well to the standard raincatcher the weather man uses. Records increments of 0.02" and displays in either inches or millimeters. A nice feature is the audible alert sounded when a transmission is received.
Suggestion: After removing the shipping restraint from the sensor unit and installing batteries run a kitchen sink test. You gotta love it!

Pretty good

Well I guess I have to give the Acurite Rainguage a thumbs up. Mine worked fine right out of the box. For the price $20 its not bad.
I compared the readings with a standard raincatcher non-electronic gauge, and the readings were comparable.
Battery life for the transmitter is the only thing I would improve on.
I would say if you get a bad one just take it back to Wal-Mart and exchange it for another one.
Wal-Mart is real good about exchanges.
