Terrific!  Time owned: more than 12 months
Dick Byrd is the real deal! He recently added a third tube to my vintage Alpha 76A as well as some other upgrades - additional bypassing, meter doubler, low drive mod, etc. He did a beautiful job - very professional and the cost was very reasonable. The amp works better than ever. It's really very simple. If you have an Alpha and want the best service on the planet, Dick is THE man! '73 es gud dxing -- Don N4HH

Simply Outstanding  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
What a wonderful experience! I had my Alpha 78 for about a year when I managed to hot switch on CW VOX (my fault) and smoked the vacuum relay, so I sent it to Dick. I prepaid for a tested NOS Jennings relay from Allen Bond (Max Gain Systems), and Dick was nice enough to run across town and pick it up for me to avoid any shipping. He replaced the relay, replaced the RCA input jack with an SO-239, installed the plate current meter doubler resistor, touched up all the bypass output tuning networks, and fully tested the amp on all bands. All for about $260 including shipping and insurance in both directions. Communnication is excellent and service and shipping was very prompt. He is always available by phone or email and very responsive. I've talked to him several times with other questions about the Alpha and he always has the answers off the top of his head. He is just simply the kind of person that makes you say to yourself "Now THAT's a guy I want to do business with".

Outstanding Service  Time owned: more than 12 months
N4UQ's services are head and shoulders above any other I've used. I once asked Dick about a 160M toroid transformer for my Alpha Seventy amplifier and a couple days later, I received a custom-wound unit made to the exact Alpha specifications. Dick holds title as THE most knowledgeable Alpha amp expert. Anyone who can construct a homebrew Alpha 77Sx from scratch deserves the title. N4UQ is a solid "10."

rates a 10 - superb!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I have an Alpha 76A, (2) 8874's, purchased in 1978. The tubes finally gave out. I decided to upgrade this amp to the 3CX800A7 tube to get full legal power and sent an email off to Dick inquiring about the upgrade he performs on these Alpha 76 amplifiers. Boy, am I glad I did!

He responded immediatly and I began the process. Every step of the way, Dick kept me up to date with what was going on. He promptly answered any and all of my inane questions, performed the work quickly, added the necessary modifications (and this was over the recent holiday season) and returned the amplifier with full documentation.

I believe the Alpha 76A is one of the best amplifier designs there is and this upgrade to full legal limit puts it at the top. My initial tests with less than 40 W of drive, pinned the 1 KW Bird slug ( couldn't find the 2500 W slug ).

If you have an older Alpha that you want to bring up to date, Dick Byrd is the person to do the job. He rates a 10 for professionalism, craftmanship, communication and integrity.

AWESOME!  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I sent Dick a complete basket case that was sitting in a storage garage for at least the last 15-20 years. Dick brought it back to life and did the necessary modifications for the WARC bands and such.
Now I got rid of that Ameritron (MFJ) garbage and my shack is completely MFJ free. My Alpha just purrs along on 40 meters at 1700 watts. It tunes right up on all bands in the HF spectrum except 60, which we all know should not be used here anyway. I highly recommend Dick's service. It is secone to none. Alpha Radio Products themselves have a link to Dick's web site. If you have an older Alpha amp that needs help, Dick is your man.
