No problems
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
I am using one on a 2003 GMC 2500 Sierra HD Crew Cab with a Diamond NR770HB 2m/440 antenna. Seems to work fine on the lip of the rear drivers side door. Of course, this truck will not do more than 93 mph.
I wonder how large the antennas are that you other fellows are having problems with? I have had no problems at all.
The only reason I did not give it a 5 is that I think it is a little pricey.

Two Mounts, Two Failures
|
Time owned: more than 12 months
|
First one failed. They sent a replacement.
Second one did the same.
The threads stripped out so the mount is worthless.
The metal Comet used on the mount is too soft to hold the threads. You just can't keep the bolts tight. And when you tighten them repeatedly they strip the threads. Do not buy this mount unless you are using a very small antenna.

Center conductor of coax cable was bad--no connection at all. Bad quality control.

I bought the antenna for the comet SBB-7 NMO, I went to tighten it down, and all the threads on one of the adjustments stripped out. If you need a no-hole mount, go with a trunk mount or a mag. I know people dont like mags, but a three inch mag mount will hold the SBB-7. Will be returning it on Monday.

I have 2 of these mounts, I have had no problems with them, one was used, the other I bought new. I just use them with dual-band 2/440 antennas I really like the smaller coax for routing thru the trunk, ect. 73 Pat

Unacceptable

This failed. Hardware had disappeared after one month of moderate driving. The hardware just flew off! Locktite will not save this.

Can't say enough about this mount. Stay Away from it. Comet says that this will support a long antenna. Well after having 2 of them that failed, what can I say. For $70.00 you'll be better off using bandaids.

Follow-up to first review

In my first review of this mount I described the problems with it holding larger antennas like the ATAS 120A. After a call to the dealer and an e-mail to Comet, they replaced the mount with a new one. They assured me that the mount should work fine with the ATAS 120A but that it needed a liitle help from some extra star washers and a liberal application of loc-tite. After re-installing the mount with the additional washers and loc-tite we had a successful 210 mile trip to Oklahoma City on I-40. The mount worked well this time with only a very slight lean after 30 miles of the roughest stretch of I-40 near Yukon, OK. So I am ammending my original rating. But most buyers aren't going to know to add star washers and to apply loc-tite, so I think this mount needs some improvement to be reliable on a long tern basis.
