Room for improvement  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Quality control was the first issue with mine. It was configured to display 500 instead of 2.3.
I contacted them for assistance and never got a response. Managed to fix it myself. Lastly, the filter has only a subtle effect. Next time I would choose the Inrad 2.0 filter.

Does the Job!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I have recently installed both the CW and the SSB W4RT filters into an FT-897D. Easy. The Operating Manual is very clear on the installation and configuration. Multi Function Row "n" automatically senses the 500 or 2.3k filter, as well as the stock ceramic.

The CW filter, combined with the DSP audio filters in the rig, make CW an new pleasure. The 2.3k filter adds a new crispness to the SSB audio. The skirts are a welcomed addition.

If you are a casual ham, these may not be the best for you. But if DXing is a serious interest, or if portable ops are in your future, I'd strongly recommend both of these filters. Tnx es 73! John, Annapolis, MD

Happy over-all.  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
The installation was a chore, and a story for another time. But this review isn't about installing them - it is about using the filters.

I have the OBF with the Collins 500 hz CW filter and the Collins SSB filter. They were installed shortly after I got the new FT-817 ND.

On SSB it is hard for my ears to detect any difference at all for receiving. However, several friends who know my voice well say I sounded much "fuller" with the Collins SSB filter. When using a 5-watt radio, that is important. From that standpoint alone it was worth it. In addition, I did an A/B with the OBP speech processor. All my friends agreed that it made a huge difference with the FT-817.

As a side-note, the 500hz CW filter really makes a difference on CW.

ITS A WAIST OF YOUR TIME AND MONEY.  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I PURCHASED THE W4RT 2.3 SSB FILTER ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO.
I AM VERY UNHAPPY THAT I DID.
I WAS USING IT IN MY YAESU FT-897D.
THIS FILTER DID NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT ALL.
I TRYED ADJUSTING THE 897D AROUND THE FILTER AND DID NOT HAVE ANY SUCCESS.
AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF GRUMBLING,I PURCHASED THE INRAD 2.0 SSB FILTER.
THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING FILTER.
THE INRAD 2.0 FILTER MADE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE ON ALL BANDS.
THE FT-897D IS NOT JUST MY BACK-UP RIG ANYMORE.
I USE IT AS MUCH AS I DO MY MAIN HF TRANSCEIVER.
THE INRAD 300 CW FILTER ALSO DOES A OUTSTANDING JOB.
PLEASE DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY ON W4RT'S OR YAESU'S COSTLY FILTERS.
INRADS FILTERS ARE $125.00 EACH.
THE SHIPPING WAS ONLY NINE DOLLARS FROM CA TO NC.
I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE BEFORE THEY MAKE THE PURCHASE MISTAKE I DID WITH W4RT.
THANKS,CHUCK N4UED

Spend you money on something more worthwhile  Time owned: more than 12 months
I bought one of these some time ago to fit in my FT-897D. At the time I was experimenting in order to try and improve the quality of the transmit audio. I thought that the better shape factor and lower pass band ripple of this filter would help clean up my rather bassy speech.

It did make some difference on TX, but I’d be hard pushed to tell any difference on RX.

Was it worth the money ?

No - not at UK prices (currently about $180 USD).

I think it would have been more useful if it had a slightly narrower bandwidth, say 2.2KHz or perhaps even as small as 1.8KHz, for it to have made an appreciable difference.

One board filter  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I sent my FT817ND off to have the dual filter board fitted, and I had it back in three days. Excellent service.

The new filters work great for me, especially on PSK31

I am very pleased with the service, and product.

No Customer Service  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I don't have issue with this filter so far, but when I buy a product from someone I expect to get some customer service. With W4RT there is almost none. Be warned if you purchace from W4RT it is buyer beware.

The filter works but there`s a catch  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
To be honest I bought the Yaesu SSB Collins filter (YF-122S) from HRO for $160.After reading the past reviews I was wondering if I was taking a chance.I have to say that after installing the mechanical filter and changing the receive and transmit filter settings on my Yaesu FT 857 I did notice quite a difference. Then again the difference in receive audio quality is noticable when one has a good set of headphones or a good external speaker. The receive audio wwas much more crisper and clearer compared with the ceramic speaker. You can notice a difference when you choose to select between the ceramic filter and the collins filter in the menu part.If I had a noisy mobile setting just with the external speaker the audio difference may not be worth the money.I have not had a chance to hear an audio difference on my transmit yet from a recording point of view.To sum up the filter does work in an indoor headphone or good speaker setting and it does help give one put out a better quality signal with 2 DB gain on transmit which is worth the money to me

Useless in Yaesu 857  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Try as I might to find something postive to say about this filter, I can't. I thought for a long time that I didn't have some menu setting engaged. But instead it appears that the W4RT filter just plain doesn't do anything for the reception in my 857D.

A/B'ing between it and the stock filter shows a little difference in audio tone of the received signal. But it by no means narrows the response. I still hear stations that are WAY over 2.3 klicks away.

I can achieve the same or better filtering by simply adjusting the Yaesu's internal DSP.

Ordered the filter on 4/1 it didn't ship till 4/14.

Bottom line for me, $136 wasted.

one board filter FT-817  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I had the filters for CW and SSB on separate boards
when I contacted W4rt Barry W4WB immediatly
accepted to use my filters to make a one board
version for a minimal fee.

Fast turn around and quality work. The installation
directions are very clear.
The SSB makes only a difference when other stations
are close to the frequency. The CW filter makes a
very noticeable difference. Well worth the money.
