Big Heavy and Fun

What can I say, got one cheap and it's a lot of fun for what it is. Recieves AM and FM, filter choices are Wide, Less Wide, and Wow That's Narrow! The loop autunes with a "reassuring" CHUNKCHUNKCHUNKCHUNK.... when changing bands, which is done by pressing buttons that have motors inside the rig change the bands for you lol. This is great for hearing air-nav beacons. It's also pretty good for hearing nutty AM shortwave broadcasters. Thos does not have a BFO. Other antennas can be used with this, there are Electro-Metrics dipoles and such, for this too. This is also known as the URM-200. It's full of batteries and um, motors and stuff, so it weighs a LOT.
This is intended for EMI testing, and someone told me today it's basically a very very accurate S-meter. It can also drive an X-Y plotter, and will "draw" the band for you with one hooked up and in scan mode. Scan mode down in LF is fun anyway, would make a great sountrack for a creepy movie lol.
The control cable I got with this setup is about 30 feet long so it should work well with the loop placed outside or elevated somehow outside. Like all loops the loop can be turned to null out stations, and optimize reception of the one you want.
Nice to know the old "SF" beacon in the Farallons is still up.....
