Great Company

Order was placed on Saturday 6/11, dispatched 6/13 and arrived U.S. Mail on 6/23. It actually arrived faster than I had expected. I was in no hurry to receive these parts so I expected a longer than normal shipping time from the start. If your not in a hurry to get your parts then this is a great place to order from. Much cheaper than buying them at the local RS, if they even have them, especially when you need lots of them. Seems that they are shipped from China so that would explain the extra time. All of my parts arrived and seem to be of good quality. I will be placing another order with Futurlec soon. Prices are hard to beat.

Very good result; have informed expectations

In my opinion a key to satisfaction with Futurlec is knowing what to expect before ordering (arising from their support/care operations and location/shipping). For this, the previous reviews on eham.net were invaluable (even though I didn't consult eham.net reviews until after I submitted my order!)
My order was initially submitted in early May 2011; I discovered an error on my part and asked them to cancel the order so I could re-submit. It took about three days for a response to arrive, but the order was shown as canceled.
I then re-submitted the order a few days later - it took about 3 days for the order to reflect shipped ("despatched") and 20 (calendar) days to arrive (using their basic/cheapest shipping option). The products (not normally available in US) arrived in excellent shape with quality packaging and professional documentation.
I'll certainly return to Futurlec again as a customer.

They got me parts for a 15 year old Diawa supply that most outfits said were out of production. Exact replacements. I told them I would email when the parts arrived and they were happy for the feedback. No neeed to worry about knockoff parts with these guys.

Friendly reliable and slow

For many years I have ordered from Futurlec for personal item as well as using their PCB service for commercial prototypes. The parts service get stuff to California in about a week and i have never had a problem. The PCB service always eventually performs, but is slow, and it will take a couple of emails, and usually two to three weeks. It is almost charming, until you bump up against a deadline. I order early.

Email necessary

I had the same experience with backordered parts. After waiting a long time, I emailed, and got a prompt and polite response that some items (stepper motors) were backordered and they were holding the shipment. After cancelling the backordered items, the remainder shipped fairly quickly.
I wasn't in any hurry so it didn't bother me, but I would have to agree that you should follow up if you need something from them.

Help on Ordering from Futurlec
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

Futurlec is slow.
Hints:
1. If Tayda has it, order there.
2. Ten days into your order, check your order status. If it has not shipped, ask if there are parts missing. Futurlec will not tell you without asking (reason for negative reviews?).
3. Find exact $ value substitution parts and ask
Futurlec to substitute. Go back to 2 above.
4. Expect shipping to the US may take up to 4 weeks.
Now reread other reviews with this in mind.
My order took almost 60 days because it took 30
days to figure I should substitute. Futurlec told me the "backordered parts" might never arrive (only after I asked!). The parts are high quality.

Re: Feb 20, 2011 post--I got an email which says they will send the correct part. Slow, but certainly a satisfactory response from their customer service.

Great service but be patient

Have bought from them several times. Never a problem, but customer service is not very responsive, and shipments take a while to arrive. Allow 2 - 3 weeks in most cases. They have never failed to deliver. "Patience - you can only get it by having to acquire it when you don't want to!"

Based on some of the past reviews I was a bit apprehensive about placing an order. However, since I didn't need the parts quickly I was willing to accept the possible long turn-around time. My order arrived 5 weeks after online submission. All inquiries into the order status were answered within 24 hours. Orders take time to fill since Futurlec gathers the parts from a wide range of sources, mostly in Asia and Europe. All parts arrived in perfect condition, exactly as advertised, and neatly packaged and labled. Overall, I am quite please and plan to order again. Futurlec is an excellent source for stocking one's parts bins.
