needs a couple extra things and don't forget to use sandbags

The product as shipped is not exactly as described but is entirely suitable for its intended purpose.
The 3/8x24 stainless steel stud is not provided. Missing too, is the "several stainless steel screws to accept ground radials".
The insulator provided is a finely machined thermoplastic (delrin?) and aluminum part with the necessary 3/8x24 threaded hole in the aluminum insert to accept a mobile whip.
The aluminum tripod itself is a Dayton TSS100K Tripod Speaker Stand ($40) minus the speaker mounting plate and the carrying bag (note: the MFJ tripods [MFJ-1918/1919] are made of steel which MFJ itself warns will easily rust).
To provide an attachment point for radials:
1 1/2" EMT Conduit Hanger $0.83
1/4" dia. by 1/2" fine thread (24) bolt, nut and two washers $0.27
Grand total = $1.10 .. all parts purchased at Home Depot.

slip the insulator into the conduit hanger with the hanger's bolt below and on the opposite side from the whip connection. tighten the conduit hanger firmly but do not overtighten.
note: the hanger mounting hole is now just below the whip connection.
use the 1/4" dia. bolt, nut and washers in the hanger mounting hole for connecting the radials.
For safety, buy a 50lb bag of paver's sand ($3.30) and fill three 18lb sandbags (Impact Saddle Sand Bag $18.95ea, B&H# IMSBE18O at bhphotovideo.com) and use them to stabilize the tripod.
