grub screw was tight

Time owned: more than 12 months

I have just fitted the Kranker knob to my FT817ND I should have done it ages ago , my only problem was it very hard to undo the grub screw as it was very very tight i thought i might snap the shaft of the allen key , but i was lucky i used a pliers to grip the allen key as the key was digging into me finger
Anyway ok and fitted now.
Next i going to email a friend who has a 817 to get the kranker

An inexpensive - but valuable - upgrade

The FT817 Kranker knob is a quality product that installs in less than a minute. I was impressed by the speed in which my Kranker knob arrived, and that it includes an allen wrench in the packet. The Kranker knob improves the feel of tuning this great little rig, and I immediately wondered why they don't offer one yet for the Yaesu FT-450, which suffers from a undersize tuning knob that needs some serious help! Wayne has a winner here, and great customer service. You probably won't "krank" the knob as much as use it to help you fine tune the movements of the knob. It's well worth the cost. Highly recommended for making a great little rig even better.

Slower than Original

The Kranker knob looks cool on the 817, but actually works slower for me, and is a bit clumsy. With the original knob I place my thumb on the edge of the knob between the rubber and face plate, with my three fingers resting on the top of the rig. With the Kranker your whole hand has to do the kranking, leaving the rig less stable, unless you use both hands. In testing both knobs I can move across more frequencies in less time with the original, and still keep my left hand free for other things. I also find it a smoother and more comfortable operation.

I emailed Wayne and asked if I could do a swap on a product that I had not used for a Kranker Knob for my new 817nd. He said sure. Within a week the trade was made. I paid the difference and postage, and now I have just what I needed for this little rig. Small buttons and knobs are no longer a problem.
Wayne could not have been more cordial.

Awesome product and service

Bought one through W4RT and unfortunately, it arrived with a stripped set screw hole. I emailed the company (FingerDimple) and they responded within an hour, and sent me a new one immediately. I had it in the mail 2 days later and they would not allow me to return the old one. The replacement worked perfectly and I'm totally satisfied with the product. I agree that Yaesu should have put one of these on the 817 in the first place.
If you have an 817, you need one of these on it.

Somewhat slicker than a branch in a tree full of birds. Easy to install and all I can say is excellent product. Makes the 817 easy to use.

Excellent product

I purchased the knob via E-Bay and got it for few days. Thanks to a short but clear description and attached "tool" installation was very simple and easy.
A great innovative product which makes the usage of FT 817 more comfortable.
I recommend it to all 817 users.

Must have for the FT-817

The Kranker knob is much better than the stock knob. Yaesu should have this on there from the factory. Installation is simple, just remove the rubber "band" from the factory knob and put it on the Kranker knob. Tighten the allen screw with the supplied allen wrench and start tuning.
