Neat idea
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

I have one of these and am able to hit the local WIDE1-1 most of the time about 2 miles away with a Comet tri band HT antenna, as well as the regular WIDE2-2 digi most of the time.
The new firmware version absolutely makes it possible to use this fixed or at an event fixed, without having any errors as previously existed, such as with the TH-D7AG2 displaying the MT300 location.
I found the battery lasted 3 days non-stop, using a new Duracell 9 volt.
This is certainly a useful and cheap way to let hams find you at an event like a Hamfest or your house for a picnic, as well as SAR or special events. Try one at Field Day 2008...

Fun Kit - Works Great
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I just put this together last night, but I've been having fun with this thing ever since. While the 300mw output is fairly low, I've had no problems hitting APRS iGates with an old 2m rubber ducky antenna. If you were to match this with a mag mount antenna and an inexpensive GPS you could easily create a tracker for your car, bicycle or dog without tying up your HT or Mobile rig.
I put my experiences into a small web page with pictures. A really fun and easy kit.
