I can't live without my 775  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have owned my IC-775DSP for about 6 years now. I have all SSB filters, including the wide 6KHz for AM. This weekend I installed the high stability crytral unit CR-282. Few minutes after turn it on, the rig was on the same frequency as a brand new IC-7000. I could compare 775 and 7000. I would say that the 7000 is very close to the 775 receiving characteristics. The 7000 is also very "silent", I mean, very poor noise generated by the rig itself. But the receiving audio of the 775 is unbeatable. The 775 transmission can be also one of the best around if you use the right microphone and tx setings. Even with the modern nice scopes etc, I can't live without my 775.

Fantastic Performance  Time owned: more than 12 months
I've owned my 775 for over 5 years. I bought it used and filled it up with filters. When I recently moved, I didn't set up a ham station right away because I knew it would impact my making our new house a "home". When I finally began to operate, I noticed that the transmitter had become intermittant, took it off-line and began to use my backup (IC-738). It hung around the house for a few weeks and finally I sent it off to be fixed. Last Friday I put it back on-line and began to operate. WOW!! What a difference!! I changed brands to ICOM because I always liked their receivers. This model is a study in beautiful receivers. It's quiet, sensitive, smooth ... Just about any explative you can use to describe a great receiver applies to the 775. Life is good once again. If you have a chance to get your hands on one of these, don't hesitate. This is the first solid state receiver I have found that could top my Collins stuff in difficult conditions. They should have kept on making the 775!!

Outstanding  Time owned: more than 12 months
Of course write about a rig it i sa very personal experience, however, after testing rigs like FT-1000MP,FT 1000MKII,TS 950SD,IC-781,IC-765,IC-756 PII and P III,IC-746,746PRO,Ten-Tec OMni VIplus ,i only can say 775DSP it is the best receiver of all this, tested in contest in low bands, very quite, no itermodulation at all, good audio, noise less, mine has about 35K qso never open at all.

It just gets better  Time owned: more than 12 months
Well where do we start, I have held fire on writing this review for some time.
At present I have an IC-781 and IC-775DSP and in the recent past: TS 870, IC756-P2, IC-746P, IC-7400 and have owned and tried many more.
My ic-775DSP has all the filters including voice chip and high stability crystal oven plus the rarer 6kc AM SSB filter and rack mounts.

1, The second VFO should be tuned to a redundant band as there is miner breakthrough,
I do not consider this a big problem for me.

2, TX over shoot and unsuppressed carrier... When using an HF amplifier .I have used two amps so far ,one uses a single 3-500 and the other amp uses a single gs35b triode. I have had a slight problem so far after 18 months constant use …with unsuppressed carrier. Note I do not use CW…just SSB…but there is a sign of unsuppressed carrier… carrier suppression was checked and is now up to spec minus 45db .I consider this to be a slight problem, it would depend on mode and gain of your aerial and proximity of other hams .TX over shoot regarding tubes no problem .

3, Audio quality on receive with external speaker or headphones is the best I have heard yet on an amateur transceiver. The noise floor on receive is also one of the best I have encountered. Audio amp is also quite, it’s a good trick to remove the aerials and turn up the volume as a rough guide on ten meters.
4, TX audio quality good, on par with pro2 or 746p and for the audio files out there check out some of the other postings on this site.

5, The external build quality is very good, all controls have a solid feel and are well spaced out, the display is large and clear, I need a clear display as my vision is no longer what it once was .VFO knob solid nicely waited

6, The receiver is now as good as my IC-781 possible better as I have fitted the INRAD 6kc roofing filter. it would hold its own with the IC-756pro2 and IC-746p,the later two radios have more bells and whistles, but their receivers or audio amps are not much of an improvement if any.
Now this is a subjective comparison as I hear them.

7, The internal fans are very quite, much more so than 756p2 or 746p for comparison.
I do not use the internal ATU very often if at all, but when pressed into service it’s fairly fast to tune. Kenwood TS-870 tuner would have the edge.

8, The PA is clamed to deliver 200 watts SSB, mine does closer to 240 watts, not that this is a problem the extra 3db is nice to have on tap. Mine rarely passes 30 watts as I generally fire up the amp.

9, This radio may not be the first choice for a top line contester, but it would suffice as a back up. I use mine for rag chewing to local hams and working
the odd bit of DX.

10. International Radio Corp now supplies a roofing filter mod for the IC-775. These roofing filters can help reduce the third order Intermodulation from multiple strong signals in the 2 to 20 kHz region either side of the tuned frequency. I have fitted this roofing filter and also replaced the 1.8 and 1.9 ssb filters and now use the INRAD 2.1 in 9meg IF and 2.1 INRAD in 455 IF
now the good news the roofing is superb a very worthwhile enhancement.

The radio is some seven years old and has just been re serviced and realigned
Mod number 01900 plus.
All in all much is subjective when reviewing a transceiver this way. I like to put both radios on the bench and listen to them for a few weeks using the same filter settings
and aerials with external speakers and head phones. Most of my listening was done with DSP switched off

Bang for the buck or pound in my case, definitely a contender for DX or rag chewing. Marks out of ten, eight or four and a half stars bare in mind nothing is ever going to be a perfect ten

The Best by far  Time owned: more than 12 months
I also had wanted one of these rigs for as long as I remember. I finally smagged one, loaded it with all the filters including the Inrad Roofing filter, installed TCXO and voice unit. I now have what seems to me the Rolls of HF rigs. I have had many rigs, but as stated, the reciever is great, and using the W2IHY 8band EQ, and going thru the PW-1, I have created all I have been looking for. I will keep this big rig for many years to come. Going to be hard to make something better.

"Magical"  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I have owned about every HF rig made (over the last 20 years and beyond). But the 775 DSP really is "special." The RX is extremely quiet and very sensitive. The TX audio can be tailored in a variety of ways. It is a great 200 watt radio with true "dual receive." The factory installed DSP works great. It is large and looks like a HF rig should look - plenty of size to fill up the desk. It is the ultimate DX rig, but it is also the ultimate "rag chew" rig.

I won't rehash all the points already mentioned. I will simply echo one statement made by a previous reviewer: "It is magical." I know the word "magical" does not tell you much (in technical terms), but it is appropriate.

Outstanding Receiver  Time owned: more than 12 months
My second review...This rig has a very good receiver section..We have compared it side by side wih our IC-7800..The 775DSP has roofing filter and all filters installed..Same antennas,speakers...If the 775 had a TFT scope would not have the 7800..Its that good..I rate all the tranceivers by how their RX perform..The 775DSP along side my 7800 well receive just as well with the roofing filter and no filter blow by with in 2.5 KHZ of a clean 10 to 20 DB over S-9 signals..I believe its BDR with roofing filter is as good as my 7800 up to 2 KHZ spacing...It is a keeper for us..Truly excellet receiver..

Simply the best !!!  Time owned: more than 12 months
I bought mine new in 98 with all the filters. It has the "lowest" noise floor for a receiver i've ever seen, period! At the time it was compaired to a yaesu 1000D a kenwood 950SDX and an icom 781. It beat them all. We compaired them all at one time sitting side by side on the same antenna. "perfection".. I'll never spend 12k on a rig so guess i'll never know how the 775dsp compairs to those, one thing for sure though we'll also never know from one of those guys. hi hi...think they'd ever admit it. Nine years now on the bench and never had a problem, flawless. My only complaint is directed at Icom and Yaesu. Why price your top end rigs at such an ignorant price. 12k??? that's a lot toward another fishing boat. My two cents: 73 John WR8D

GREAT RADIO!  Time owned: more than 12 months
I acquired my late father's (K5LDH) IC-775DSP in January 2006. It has taken me a year to fire the unit up and I did an A/B with my FT-1000D. The Icom is a great radio. They are both equal in performance except for the true "dual watch" and the CW tuning aid on the Yaesu. I like them both and am dedicating the TL-922 to the Icom (for 160 and 80 meters) and the 91B to the Yaesu (for 40 through 10 meters). Future adds will be roofing filters for both. You cannot go wrong with either transceiver.

Absolutley Brilliant  Time owned: more than 12 months
My wife gave me my 775 for my birthday 2 years ago because she knew i always wanted one. I had no special reason for this I just did. Well since having the thing here all i can say is that this radio makes all other rigs ive owned look abit sad, and when you consider that they were all icoms too thats a big statement.

The radio has a magic receiver and the dsp is excelent. I still have an ic736 which is a good radio in its own right but nothing compared to the 775. Mine is not the dsp version but has the board fitted so is exactly the same.

To say this radio is good is an understatement. I recently had an ic756proiii on test and yes they have a better dsp but the 775 performs admirably and if you add an external dsp speaker to it as well you can not really hear the difference between them.

In closing if you are after a great rig that will serve you well you'd be hard pressed to find anything better than a 775dsp
