Nice receiver too often overlooked  Time owned: more than 12 months
It seems the SX-100 may be one of the most underated receivers around. Very well laid out and high quality build . Compares very facvorably with the Hallicrafters HQ-170/180 series. The SX-100 receiver is more compact, very robustly built. It also sports a genuine gear drive and gives you a 5 KC bandwidth option that Hammarlund left out. The product detector works well and the low IF make for excellent selectivity. A bit more audio than the Hammarlund as well. Not picking on the Hammarlund, a fine receiver in it's own right. Still, given the choice between a ham band only HQ-170 or even a general coverage HQ-180 and a nice, general coverage SX-100MKII at similar prices and in similar condition the Hallicrafters would likely get the nod here.

I probably should not write these reveiws during my lunch break. Of course the SX-100 did not have a product detector. My mistake. I should have said it works quite well on ssb in spite of that fact. Sorry for the error.

BTW, I tend to rate the receivers within the market price range . IE, I feel $300 spent on an SX-100 will give a lot more performance for the dollar than dumping $2000 on an already over-rated SX-115.
