Service as it should be!  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
Alan has tuned/repaired/modified a K-2, and built a KX-1 with all options for me. He is a pro-active communicator - quick to respond to questions, and during the build/repair process regularly kept me updated in a standard format, sending progress reports with pictures to show the work he had done. The quality of the work is outstanding!! He does not forget the little (but important!) things such as annotating the manual with the settings as he tunes the unit - he also ensures that all documentation changes/addenda are marked in the manuals to ensure that one has a set of fully current documentation as well as the documented specific settings for the machine. He may be a little more expensive than others - but what you get is a true professional who lets his excellant work speak for itself. He will remain my Elecraft "go to" guy!

Erwin

TOP NOTCH SERVICE!  Time owned: months
This comment is long overdue (my apologies to Alan, because he certainly deserves the comments I am about to write regarding his services).

I contacted Alan because I wanted to repair, upgrade and align my K2/100. This involved some difficult logistics because I had to re-export the radio back to the US, including manuals, options, etc. Eventually, I also asked for Alan's assistance to actually put the radio on sale.

Alan was extremely patient, kind and efficient and, in spite of the extra trouble and unusual requests from me, his rates were very very reasonable and the service was excellent!

Without Alan's professional skills and good will I would have had a very hard time achieving my goals.

I can certainly recommend Alan's services to anyone who might have an Elecraft kit to build or an assembled radio to align or repair.

Your radio will be in good hands.

Fast turn-around and reasonable rates  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
My K2 developed a few problems. I sent it to Alan and had it back in about a week, good as new. His rates are reasonable and he kept me informed during the repair process. Highly recommended.

K1 Repair  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
My K1 developed a problem that I could not resolve. I have never used any reapir service before but I needed help.

I chose Alan based on the eHamNet reviews.

I could repeat all the things other reviewers have said but I will leave it at "he did a great job for a very reasonable price".

Elecraft K2 Repairs  Time owned: more than 12 months
I recently sent my old (SN 550) K2 which I built in 1999 to Alan for correction of a strange problem which had developed.

Alan found and corrected the problem and I had my K2 back in just a week or so.

I am very satisfied with his service and reasonable charges and highly recommend him.

Highly recommended!!  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
Within the past year I have sent both of my K2/100's (#1933, #4295) to Alan for upgrades and tuneups. In both cases, the results were outstanding. His prices are reasonable, he will keep you informed of what he will do, and will provide a 1 page summary of the results. I will not hesitate to use his services in the future.
Keep up the great work Alan! I am definitely a SATISFIED customer!!

Excellant  Time owned: months
My K2/100, KAT/100 is six yrs old. It needed minor updates. The radio developed a no tune problem on 40 mtrs and a power output on 20 mtrs. I called Alan because his website mailing was down. He told me to mail it to him after talking to him about the radio. He was very easy to talk with. Kept in contact thru email and he called me twice about the radio to discuss the repairs. He made me feel at ease sending my radio to him. I got the radio back and I know it hears better, tunes more responsively, and even the QSK with my bug sounds better. He included a service sheet. His service charge is very reasonable, and charges a flat rate each for the radio and the tuner. My radio was gone about three weeks. He had to wait for parts from Elecraft. He also told me about re tightening the power transistors of the KPA/100, of which I am in the process of getting more information about. All in all, I would not hesitate to have him service my K2 again. thanks Alan for great work and keeping contact during the repairs. John K3JK

K1 Repair  Time owned: more than 12 months
I recently finished my first construction project. I thoroughly enjoyed building my Elecraft K1, but lo and behold it would not transmit or receive when I got to the final steps. After conferring with Elecraft I decided I did not have the expertise or equipment to resolve the problems. Elecraft recommended Alan to me and I sent him a quick email. Within several hours he called and asked a few questions. I sent the radio to him the next day, and a day or two later he called to inform me that he had started trouble shooting.I had under soldered several places on the boards and installed a couple of components backwards. Bottom line: He repaired the radio and had it back to me within abt 10 days. His prices were fair and his work is superb. My little K1 works like a champ! I HIGHLY recommend Alan as a repair source and I assume he is equally talented as a builder. Nice to know there is someone out there with skill and integrity.

Master Craftsman  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
When I was first licensed 47 years ago, I built nearly all my own gear, and what I didn't build myself, I modfied.

Fast forward to today ... my eyes aren't so hot, and parts are tiny.

I've really enjoyed my K2, but after 3 years, I realized that the 160 meter, SSB and ATU options weren't going to build themselves, and I couldn't do it, so I contacted Alan.

Alan did a *superb* job, in every respect. He kept me informed with a steady stream of pictures via email, and when he found things with the K2 that needed more work than expected (the 100 watt amp didn't have the latest mods), he let me know why the work was needed and what it would cost, so there were no surprises.

The quality of the work was far better than I could have managed, even in my best days, and the K2 works better than it ever did (guess my alignment job wasn't so hot, because the rig sure works better now ...).

If you've got a K2 or K2 options that you haven't built, Alan is the guy to talk to. He did a fantastic job for me.

Precise, skilled, and honest  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
When I became unable to build my Small Wonder Labs DSW II 40m kit because of unforeseen physical limitations, I contacted Alan Wilcox. It was the best decision I could have made. He is a proficient technician, good communicator, fair, honest and reasonable with cost. He also sent pictures to me of his progress with my kit. The final result was a beautiful piece of workmanship and a rig that works perfectly. I recommend this builder to anyone wants a thorough and skilled job done. D.Jack Heath, KB4NDR
