Nice preamp!

I bought this preamp a couple of months ago brcause I was tired of the muffled sound I was getting from my Icom hand mic. As well as being a dedicated ham i'm also a musician, so I had a NADY systems SP-1 laying around that needed a purpose in life.
I bought this unit from Musician's Friend for around 30 bucks plus shipping. It has a 12AX7 tube in it, which is reminiscent of a Marshall stack i.e., lots of drive.
Excellent control over your sound, good for voice. The OPL control is a nice touch because it keeps you from clipping if you get too fired up. Small package, built like a tank, very user-friendly.
The reason it gets a 4 and not a 5: no power switch. You plug in the wall wart and you're powered up till you unplug it. Engineers are good at forgetting little things, so maybe that's the case here.

Works nice

Wanted to put a desk mic on my FT7800R Yaesu 2m/440 fm moble to use at the house. As I tried different mics nothing had the audio required. In comes the ART Mic Preamp. I'm using a Shure SM58s studio mic into the ART Mic Preamp 3pin XLR. Now I have enough audio. Easy to set up and use. Workmanship & quality of the unit seems fine. You will need the correct cables. I'm using a 3pin XLR cable to the ART amp. Then a Heil XLR to 8 pin Yaesu, then from 8pin Yaesu to 6pin modular Yaesu into the radio, also from Heil sound.
Nice solution to my issue, so far works great.
