Respectable portable with Sync AM

The KK-S500 is a small respectable portable with sync. detection on AM which makes portable AM shortwave reception much more stable and enjoyable.
The functions are difficult to master since my unit has everything printed in Chinese, but once you can figure out the functions and navigate around the menus it is quite a decent portable sw performer. It is not particularly user friendly and will take some learning.
An external speaker does help improve upon the received audio. It is nice built and comes with a very nice carrying pouch.
A nice set for hikes. I will give it a 5 for size vis-a-vis performance.

Nice very nice little reciever

Just got this little jewel, they are so new I could hardly find anything posted yet.
I decided it was time for me to try a reciever with Synch detect. For a quick comparison I used a (Sony) 7600GR and a Grundig (Eton G5)aka Degan 1103.
This by no means is a complete or even a well documented test, but just a snapshot until some more extensive reviews are done by people who are more knowlegable then me.
AM - very good gets all the sations that I get on the G5 or 7600 with about the same level of signal.
FM - This is not a strengh for the little Kchibo as my fav FM station sits 10 miles behind cemetary hill and most of my radios can,with a little creative antenna postioning recieve this clearly. KK never realy recieved this cleanly.
Shortwave - tested in the 31 meter band only. The S-500 did as well as the 7600gr and the G5 and in some cases better. I was able to listen to radio Moscow better on the Kchibo than either of the others, when useing the synchroeous detect, even compared with the 7600's legendary synch detector. It's interesting to note that the sink detect on this unit is selectable manualy, upper or lower. I generaly did best with upper. Very pleased with this.
Audio - The Kchibo has good audio but not great. The G5 is best and the Sony Kachibo are close.
Build quality and feel - The S-500 does not feel as sturdy or look as good as the other two. Thats not to say it's bad but the G5 special ruuber coat and the Sonys layout are hard to. beat.
Extras - nice little snap case, ear buds, reel antenna and 220v wallwart.
Bottom line - This little Kchibo KKS-500 looks like a winner. Is it better than any of the similar size and featured radios? Depends on what your style of listening is. The S-500 has the synch detect but gives up having sideband. 1,000 memories? I will never use that, barly use twenty. So far the S-500's best feature seems to be shortwave broadcast. About $90.00 including the shipping makes this a bargin compact.
