Works Great!

I have owned one of these Squawk boxes for quite some time and only recently fielded it for local fox hunts. It runs practically forever (over one week at 20 secs on every 3 mins)on 6 NiMh AAA batteries. Mounted in a cast aluminum case with BNC connector and whip, case is covered with camo tape. Small, easy to hide and makes it tough for the hunters to spot visually.
Congrats to Bob,WB6EYV for a great product.

OK but to pricey

I have two and they work well - but do not try and change the frequency straps.
The serious flaw in the device is it is missing a SMA thru-hole connector pattern in the PCB for a jack installation option - the two wire hanging from the PCA just doesn't cut it.
I have mine mounted in an old Band-Aid box painted and wrapped in cloth cammo tape - what a devil to spot.
At these new high prices my $99 IC-Q7 with a cheap $9 DVR is as good.

Tiny and works for short to medium range hunts 'as is', and they have a small 1 watt amp you can add to extend range. Customer service and support are second to none, with excellent email response.
Can be used for t-hunting, balloon payloads, or even repeater beacons, since the audio and PTT can be ported externally. I slipped mine with a 9V battery into a small pill bottle and its now nearly waterproof! All I'd have to do would be to seal it with silicone around the holes where the antenna wires come out.
I have range tested it, but our club has not yet used it in a t-hunt. I'll post later after the fun!
