A surprise performer

Got my unit yesterday. So simple to use - MID & HI positions seem to clear up the audio to my satisfaction. For the price it seems high for what you get; but, it's worth it. All the works are hidden - no knob twisting & etc.

Wonderful Product!

I like to tune into some chats on 75 meters while working on my computer late at night. Kinda like talk radio, except on a subject I can enjoy. Two or three of the stations might sound good, but there is always that one station that the noise gets the best of and makes me strain to hear. All I have to do is put the DSP on the lowest setting and the audio comes up just above the noise. Also, it is perfectly readable. West Mountain built another winner in my book!

Great Performer

I like to rag chew on 75 meters often. During the summer we all know how much atmospheric noise there can be. I also live in a fairly urban environment which doesn't help. I have owned several of the other outboard DSP units out there. They have come and gone to ebay. This one is a keeper. I believe the DSP circuit has been upgraded from the original.
Between this unit, and the filtering on my Icom Pro 2, i am often able to get a signal that is a pleasure to listen to on SSB. Without it, often conditions would keep me off the air. I am very satisfied and I am sure you will be to. Don't hesitate to purchase this DSP unit. You may be wasting your time like I did, with any other. To be complete, I have not tried the Gap unit.

I have reviewed many pieces of equipment here on QRZ and I usually wait several months or longer before writing a review. With the WMR CLRdsp unit, there is no need to wait. I can't begin to say how happy I am with this little unit!
My current radio, a Yaesu FT-2000 has very good dsp. Even so, it is tiring to listen to if the band is noisy. The "low" setting removes the noise without touching the SSB signal I am listening to. Higher settings may distort speech if the signal is strong - like S9, but then you don't need to use this in that case.
When working DX, one of my pet peeves is to tune to a frequency, only to have a huge heterodyne on top of the DX station. Using the notch filter will remove the noise, but I usually can't hear the dx station either. With the CLRdsp, turn on the power, turn to "lo" and instantly the offending noise is gone and you have nice clear SSB to listen to.

I have several HF rigs - Omni VII, TT Scout, IC 706 and FT 101E. The CLRsp improved SSB and CW on all rigs, even the Omni VII which has an effective array of notch and noise reduction circuits. My hearing is not what it used to be, so the 4 watt internal audio amp in the unit makes a significant difference to my ears. The Omni VII lacks in power to effectively drive an external speaker, so this unit really works for me. Increasing the level of DSP does not degreade the signal and the audio level remains the same. Nice touch is the prewired power poles cable for 12 volt.

ClearSpeech has given me an entirely new definition to DSP. I'm running a Kenwood TS-2000 and was really disappointed at the built in DSP. With ClearSpeech now I can actually hear the stations, both SSB and CW, that I am listening for. I live in town where there is a ton of man-made noise but with the ClearSpeech I can pull them out of the mud with ease. Static crashes and multiple carriers just disappear! There is nothing made that will clear up every situation but as far as I am concerned this is the best I have heard so far by a long shot.

CLRdsp also works very well with CW signals. For me it does what it claims - removes most of or all background noise, whether externally generated or generated within the receiver itself. It is not a substitute for IF filtering. Unique in that it removes heterodynes, including your own sidetone out of your speaker when holding the key down for aprox 1s. It does not affect CW notes, unless someone is running dahs that are 1 second in duration! I run the CLRdsp into a SCAF-1 for audio bandwidth filtering (prefer a 500Hz note) before it goes to a powered Fostex 6301B speaker. I much prefer an external audio DSP unit to an internal. Can switch from rig to rig and use only one volume control, the one on the powered external speaker. It lowers background noise much below what the 599zx does. Easy to use, reasonably priced, and does an excellent job in my shack.

I've had the speaker version for six months. Works very well at cleaning up general background noise that my TS2000 doesn't do. I'd say that it gets rid of 95% plus of background noise of any kind. I keep my unit in the low position and that does the trick. Makes SSB very enjoyable. The West Mountain boys should have added a switch to select between the unit's speaker or a remote speaker. That would have been better than plugging a remote speaker in and out. But then that would have made the "speakerless" version useless. Still a 5.

IMPRESSIVE

WELL I HAVE BEEN THINKING BEFORE I STARTED TO WRITE THIS AND I STILL GIVE IT A 5.
I JUST GOT MINE FROM A NEW BATCH THAT FILLED SOME BACKORDERS THIS WEEK, I WAS A LITTLE SCEPTIC AT FIRST BUT I WILL SAY IT WORKS GOOD.
HAVING A VERTICLE ON 40 MTRS IT IS OFTEN A NOISE LEVEL OF S/5 BUT WITH THE UNIT THE NOISE IS ABOUT 90% GONE SET IN THE MAX POSITION, NATURALLY THE RIG SHOWS STILL S/5 BUT MAKES IT MUCH MORE PLEASING TO MONITOR OR LISTEN ETC.
ON ALL OTHER BANDS (VERTICLE) I RUN IT IN THE MID SETTING AND ALL HISSS HASHHHH IS NULL.
THE PHONE JACK ON THE FRONT REALLY IS GOOD IN THAT POSITION. ALSO NICE TO JUST FLIP THE PWR SWITCH TO CUT THE AUDIO OFF WHEN YOU GET THAT PHONE CALL OR WIFE WANTS TO YACK AT YOU WITHOUT REACHING TO TURN THE RF DOWN, JUST A QUICK FLIP OF THE SWITCH.
