Good  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Alinco dealer had these on sale at the local hamfest. Pretty good price considering Alinco MSRP. Radio feels good and is easy to program. Nothing fancy as usual from Alinco, but everything you really need. 40 memories seems a little shallow, but for the repeaters in this area, that's plenty. Not sure about the Mosquito repeler (MRS), but I'll have to give it a try on my next field op.

Only thing I didn't like was the stock antenna. It doesn't seem to be very well tuned for 70cm. Side-by-side comparisons with my vx-3r showed 2-3 S-unit difference and noticeable static on the 496T with the weak repeaters. I'll have to opt for an aftermarket BNC antenna. The DJ-V27 I bought a while back has a great antenna on it.

I was wanting a twin for the V27, but since the price was right on this 496T, I couldn't resist. Still a keeper.

I just recently purchased the 496T & pleased with
all of the options plus the memories are easy to
remember.
Great 440 HT for someone on a budget!
